I like the idea of a lottery. If people won't get vaccinated for the right reason but will get vaccinated for the wrong reason, at least they end up vaccinated.

My state (New Mexico) also started a lottery. It was opened to anyone who had at least one shot, but they had to have both to win the prizes. I entered right away.

Colorado has the same thing....with four winners of a million dollars.

Oregon also has a lottery, but apparently it's not making a big difference in vaccine numbers. 😥

I thought only Ohio had a lottery. I had heard about other incentives, like pot, beer, etc...

I think this is a very bad idea. While it could cause people to receive the vaccine someone will sue because they were not a winner. Then there is what happens in the future if there is another disease will people wait for a bribe/lottery before protecting themselves?

Oregon has a one winner, one million winner. Additio Additionally one person from each county will win 10,000. and there are ( I think) 4 college scholarships

If someone already had their vax, and THEN they announce a lottery, what’s to stop someone from getting it again, to enter the lottery? I don’t know thqt there is a central database in any state of vaccinatd persons. And could vax again be harmful? not harmful? Do we even know?

I had already been vaccinated when they opened the lottery. They opened the eligibility to everyone who had already been vaccinated, along with people that had at least one shot.

Washington state is offering free weed if you get the vaccine. LOL

Bpath, you don't have to get another one, just sign up with your info and where you had it done. There is a note saying you agree to let the health department contact the organization to verify you had it.

I have no opinion either way on these incentives. I’m no expert on what gets people to do something they feel hesitant about. However, IMHO I feel like it would get more response if there were a greater chance of winning at least something. Divide that million dollar prize into 10 prizes of 100k or 20 prizes of 50k. It would seem more likely I might win, so it would give me more incentive, personally.

My odds are still better than the regular lottery since only 1.76 million here have so far been vaccinated and not all of them will sign up for the lottery for whatever reason.

I did not know that....thanks for posting! But I'm not holding my breath :-) I have never won as much as $1.00 with any lottery drawing or scratch off ticket!!

I'm betting that the ever present 'lottery win' scammers will have a field day sending fake lottery win messages with requests for 'processing fees' before the winner is mailed his/her winnings. I hope all of you that live in vaccine lottery states win a genuine lottery, but just double check before ordering your new Mercedes :)
