Your Favorite Pink David Austin Roses
Comments (53)I plan to put Wildeve next to a fence - so if it does get long canes I will have something to attach it to. Jay [that's my son's name too!], glad to hear you like this rose - got it at an excellent discount for $5 in a big pot - it now has lots of buds. I have quite a few pink Austins - many are young so I haven't been able to evaluate yet. Am thinking I need to get Queen of Sweden, heard lots of good reports on it. England's Rose started out great last year, covered in blooms. Maybe I should have pinched them - the bush is still alive but not very vigorous - not going to let it bloom until/unless it recovers and starts growing. Love my James Galway - strong, upright bush that has a beautiful spring display then always has some blooms on it. Just got Sharifa Asma - covered in buds. I have a very old Mary Rose that does well. Love Tess of the d'Ubervilles - its on a huge fan trellis that it covers - it now has loads of big buds. Like Lady of Megginch - think I need to fertilize it more - when it blooms, you can see them all over the yard. Also have a large Scepter d'Isle that I like a lot - soft pink blooms, healthy bush, reliable rebloom. Charles Rennie Macintosh is another favorite - almost a lilac pink. I would like to see a stronger bush, but maybe its time for it to "leap" - it will be 3 yrs. old this year. That Alnwick rose is beautiful, Sylvia! Judith...See MoreWhat's your favorite deep pink?
Comments (14)Laurie, Thanks for the heads up about the website. I had Saint Mary in the wrong place, so I moved her... :( She is a normal miniature... One of my favorites actually... That color of purple is very rare in miniatures... She is about the same size bloom as Starina. ============== Picking favorites is hard... Gala is a very nice deep pink color. However the blooms fade and quill as it ages, so it would have to be deadheaded more often to have the bush looking the way you want it to... Live wire is perfect colorwise. As per most micro-miniatures it does get minor blackspot. The bush would have to be several years old to make any sort of color impact since the blooms are so tiny. Doris Morgan is a very nice deep pink color with white interior. However the blooms fade and quill as it ages, so it would have to be deadheaded more often to have the bush looking the way you want it to... Marriotta always impresses me and is so darn cute. Not HT bloomform however, but cute cute cute! Hard to come by actually. The white edges are very unique. It always gets comments. Kayla would be perfect if it wasn't for the slight PM. Needs to be in an airy sunny spot. Ace of diamonds is listed as a medium red, but looks pink most of the time. I shovel pruned it... Hi Ho very slow bloomer, so can't say anything about it, it hasn't bloomed this year yet... Norwich Sweetheart shovel pruned due to disease Winsome, no faults, listed as a mauve but it is always fuchsia here, not neon pink like Electron, but definitely more pink than say Purple Passion type color. Another possibility that I don't have is China Doll. Another is Wild Plum, which again is listed as a mauve but looks fuchsia. Here is a link that might be useful: Wild Plum...See MoreZone 5 Rose Gardeners "What's Your Favorite Rose'?
Comments (41)I live in zone 5 a little west of Madison WI and have a "Blaze Improved" that has been in for over 8 years. I live in a valley so I get lots of wind and a little cooler climate than in town, my lilacs bloom 2 weeks after the ones there. I didn't do a very good job of taking care of Blaze (didn't prune, water regularly, or fertilize up till 2 years ago). The pictures below are from today, October 3rd, and it's still cranking out the 2.25" blooms on the 5-6 foot canes. It does get BS here but I don't care, this has got to be the bloomingist rose I have. The color is a true, rich, beautiful red that does not fade (picture color is pretty accurate). Little or no fragrance to me. I don't do anything special in the winter except dump a half bag of chip bark mulch on the base for winter and sometimes if I have extra oak leaves I use those instead. There is very little die back or pruning to do come spring. From what I've read, 'Blaze' is zone 6-10, blooms on old wood, and 'Blaze Improved' is zone 5-9 blooms on new and old wood, if that helps for pruning. Very consistent and dependable. This is a repost from the Blaze topic....See MoreYour favorite medium or light pink rose?
Comments (44)Man, these are fantastic blooms!!!!! Sooooo pretty!! Here's some pinks that I have Chicago Peace (probably my favorite pink, and I love pink) Jadis (always in bloom, and the fragrance is wonderful) Memorial Day is sooooo fragrant, and one of my favorites. Peter Mayle is fantastic. The blooms last forever, and the fragrance is incredible. It's a very visible rose in the yard. Quite a big rose too - both in bloom size and plant size. Big Purple - lovely fragrance, blooms all the time, but not prolifically. Looks like there's a tiny stripe. Hmmm. Acapella - I love the banana candy smell. Wow!! Gemini in it's more pink phase. Love this rose. I absolutely love, love this thread. Your blooms are all amazing!!!! Carol...See MoreRose Lai (9b)
