Brick color suggestions for that curbside appeal
Comments (4)Bricks is already painted. Here's what I suggest: Body - Ben Moore's Nantucket Gray Trim -Sherwin Williams Creamy Front Door - an old Martha Stewart Signature color but Sherwin Williams can still mix it. The color is called Red Miso. Another option for front door color, also from Sherwin Williams is Polished Mahogany. Nantucket Gray is actually a very grayed green - it's not "gray". It's one of my favorite exterior body colors. Lastly, the shutters are a bit too casual, too rustic or maybe even country for the house. The very long windows on the right bring a contemporary edge to the curb appeal and you should switch out the shutters to complement that aesthetic. Shutters are inexpensive and easy to switch. Then if you have time and money, I'd also upgrade on the lighting. Again, lighting fixture with a contemporary design to tie it all together. It's a really cute house. If you execute everything I suggested, you'll end up with a 'contemporary cottage' look. And for not very much $$$. A bit of landscaping, i.e. flowers will help finish off the look too. Good luck....See MoreCurbside Appeal Help Needed - Tricky Situation
Comments (20)Hi, I love houzz but everything on it is soo expensive. I've remolded flipped and built new over the years. I've found out what you love and what you need are 2 different things. Iron is in right now, and extremely expensive. So if your on a budget, here goes. Paint all the iron flat black, then paint the concrete gray, not a battleship gray. Frame out door, and garage door. Change the entry door to match the garage door panels, paint it white like your garage. Put black hardware on the door. Above your garage put in 2 dome metal lights black. Paint the blocks same color gray on the right side, then put in moveable pots with shrubs, large ones, 3-4 ft. Leyland Cryprus. Trellis flowers and vines create problems and are work and can ruin a paint job. This will cover the wall and the meter. Then I'd also put a potted shrub on the other meter for balance and to hide it. If your a DIY er you can easily do this well under a couple of thousand, without breaking the bank. Even having a carpenter install the new door and trim. Good luck, post your final upgrades love to see them>...See MoreImprove Curb Appeal of My Existing Home
Comments (12)Brick: I think your brick is very attractive; I would not paint it. I do think the railing would look better if painted black or dark green. Landscape: Your pictures are very dark--is that a Japanese maple in the front of the house in the flower bed? Those shrubs might look better if they were shaped. Flowering shrubs and annuals would be an improvement, too. Not the time of year, I know. Paging Dig Doug's Designs! He has terrific ideas. I am not sure how much room you have on the right side, but I think an arbor would look really nice over there or in the front of your house with some climbing roses or other vines like clematis. Windows: I am not a professional, but I think your mini blinds do not go with the style of your home. Sheers or lace curtains would seem to look better. If you can't open your windows because they are nailed shut, it's time to think about new windows. I know you hate your brick and think your house is unattractive, but I don't think it looks that bad. This is the time of year when flowers fade and leaves fall. In my area, it seems cloudy and/or rainy/snowy all the time. Can't wait to see what you do with the place. Good luck!...See MoreLandscape appeal
Comments (4)Cat_ky's idea is a must do. Expand the landing and widen the walk, Plant a small tree with groundcover below diagonally off the right house corner. Add a shrub at the left side and some color...See Morecalidesign
