Need Help Determining If These Trees Can Be Helped And How
Comments (16)For everyone's peace of mine, especially for myself, I'm going to call a local certified arborist to come out and take a look at these trees and provide me with some expert recommendation on what to do with them, even if it's nothing. I am stressing out about the trees b/c this past winter I had a smaller one completely uprooted by just the heavy snow. During the beginning of spring I had another tree that appeared to have it's lower bark gone just completely break at the base like someone took a chainsaw to it (it was that clean of a break). I have two other pine type trees up front that have hardly any bark on them and also look diseased. Just last week some tree that was mine broke during a storm just like the one up front except it fell on the neighbors car, so this is why I am freaking out about getting these things looked at....See MoreCan you help me determine house style?
Comments (5)Unfortunately, the house doesn't have the bones to be a Craftsman but it could be a Cape Cod or a Nantucket Cottage if you modify the big portico and add some cedar shingles and appropriate trim detailing. I often see houses with architectural detailing that is contradictory to the basic form of the house and it's good evidence of why the best known styles evolved as they did. Be careful that you don't create a bad version of a favorite style like so many home builders do. I recommend that you reinforce what you've got unless you can afford to raise the roof and create a story and a half house. Comments (7)Thanks Everyone We had an electrician come in and he ran the 20A, divorced several lights and put them on separate switches, installed additional outlets, and some can lights. Sure glad we did because he had ideas we had not thought of. I think we will be good. As far as the future bathroom, the builder put in the rough plumbing for the bathroom when the house was built. There are the drains for the shower and sink as well as the toilet. The water supply is directly overhead and easily accessible when its time to tap in. Wish us luck..the drywaller will start tomorrow! If anyone thinks of anything before 7am let me know!! dspen...See MoreNeed help determining what type of UPS and whole house surge protector
Comments (16)A UPS is not a surge protector. UPS manufacturers quietly recommend no motorized appliances or protector strips on its output. Reason is made obvious by an output from a typical UPS. For example my 120 volt sine wave UPS outputs 200 volt square waves with a spike of up to 270 volts. From high school math, we know that is a sum of pure sine waves. Perfectly ideal power for electronics. And problematic for motorized appliances (and protectors). They did not lie. They simply played fast and loose with most consumers who do not always demand spec numbers. A 'so called' pure sine wave may only be one IF spec numbers do not say 'how pure'. Also read its specs for surge protection. Destructive surges can be hundreds of thousands of joules. How many joules does a UPS absorb? Typically hundreds. That near zero protection is sufficient to hype it as 100% protection to naive consumers. A UPS battery typically lasts about three years. These things are made as cheap as possible. UPS is only a temporary and not a recommended solution. Better is something that will delay power restoration. Unfortunately that power delay switch does not have a UL listing (some other electrical items also do not). Be careful with their wording. They say it complies with UL requirements. They do not say it was tested to confirm it complies with UL requirements; to have passed testing in a UL approved lab. Number of cubic feet means nothing. That switch must provide sufficient current to meet the current (or power) requirements listed on a label on that refrigerator or in it User Manual specifications. Any answer that does not include a number should be considered bogus; probably a lie....See MoreRelated Professionals
