Comments (3)That is a great photo. I'm surprised you were able to get such a beautiful, clear photo in the dark. I have a hard time shooting images like that in the dark. Very nice, it sure does show off the beautiful blue color....See MoreCunninghamia lanceolata glauca seed
Comments (7)I've never tried UK-produced seed. They certainly produce plenty of cones here, both seed cones and pollen cones, so it would be worth trying seed from somewhere with several specimens (e.g. Bedgebury). The only question is whether our summers have the necessary heat for seed maturation. After a hot summer like 2006 I'd be reasonably optimistic, much less so after 2007's washout. The seeds look quite similar to Sequoiadendron seeds, about 4-5mm long and 1mm broad, with a 2mm broad wing down each side, mid-brown (somewhat darker than Sequoiadendron seeds). Resin...See Morecunninghamia lanceolata
Comments (4)Tends to be a bit ratty here. Presumably like other east Asian plants it wants a copiously rainy summer. For an attractive specimen keep well watered and mulched, in a good soil. Produces a dramatically fuller tree in the cloud forest near Volcano, Hawaii - showing what kind of environment it really likes. Although often sparse, with spent dead foliage visible has grown over 90' tall here, as one on Vashon Island was during 1993 (since cut down). More than one in Seattle are currently 81'-84' tall. Comments (2)every leaf is a food making machine,.. needles are leaves ... cutting any some off reduces overall energy that the plant can make ... so under that logic ... you might stunt the plant ... you mention it was a babe when you started.. you really dont tell us how big it is now.. so its hard to determine if canopy removal is significant ... relatively speaking ... whatever you decide.. you dont have to cut them all off at once ... you could one per year for years ... or shorten them.. etc ... maybe a pic will get you better info ... ken...See MoreDeanW45
