Following this! Ferguson recommended a Zephyr for us too. We're getting a 30" induction range, and they recommended this one. 600 CFM but I noticed it's only 11" deep. My impression is that Zephyr is a good brand but not a luxury one.

@stiley Same. The Wolf is only 11 3/4. Also, the widest one Wolf has is 30" so I guess you use that whether it is a 30" or 36". Can't see spending double. Let's see what others say.

11.75" is much to shallow. You want at least 22" though 24-30" deep is much better.

My cabinet base is only 24”

The cart is so far ahead of the horse that I can't even see the horse from the cart.

While my Wolf Design Guide is somewhat aged, I would be very surprised if their insert options are more limited than these.

I will note that for a 36-inch cooktop the hood width should be larger than 36 inches, so I'd consider the 40-inch the minimum liner. Depth choice is somewhat limited, but the 22 will be better than the 19. I don't have a Zephyr catalog at hand to see what they have.

Once hood entry area is known, then CFM can be computed and blower rating determined.

After that is duct size and MUA system design determined..

@kaseki I try to research everything before I post a question. Actually spend a day or two trying to research things when I have free time to get my answers. However the comparison of these two brands I only found one post, and most things are old and outdated. Newer features come out every couple years so I think it’s good to refresh the question. Also, unless you have time to read everybody’s responses in between the lines sometimes it’s hard to get a straightforward answer. Some of the stuff is confusing to me Your answer right there just probably saved me another three hours of reading posts so I appreciate it very much! Honestly, though this may sound like a dumb question, I thought the hood is wider for aesthetics and the liner could be the size of the cooktop. However, it sounds like you want the liner and the insert to be wider than the cooktop. I also cook a lot and Want to be covered for a lot of smoke. I am also surprised that both of these brands don’t seem to come deeper than 12 inches. Wolf only comes on 30” also. I wonder why they would even suggest a 30 inch when I have a 36 inch cooktop! Can you suggest another brand?

Wide and deep is to capture the rising and expanding cooking plumes. CFM/sq. ft. is to ensure that hot high velocity plume components are pulled into the baffle spaces and do not reflect out of the hood.

Did you expand by clicking on the two images above? Or are you certain from other data that Wolf only manufactures a 30 x 12 insert, and has abandoned providing adequate plume capture for their width range of ranges and cooktops. My mind boggles at the idea.

There is an insert now available that seems to fit your description, but you need to go farther (to page 154) to get to the 'real' hoods. It appears from casual inspection that the insert you were looking at was intended to fit in an existing cabinet rather than be used with a tailor-made (bespoke) cabinet shell intended for hood inserts.

My recommendation: Do not skimp on kitchen ventilation. Do not go undersized on the hood.
