Comments (10)Thank you everyone. My tiny kitchen is finally working for me. I didn't repaint the light cabs...just changed out the old, ugly white formica for the black tile. It made the cabs a bit warmer. The soffits and the door to the garage are also the same paint/glaze. But I did a plaster finish on the soffit/upper wall when I removed the plastic white bricks. The cabinet doors are not glass, they're actually plexiglass that I sprayed frosting on. I had a wood & wrought iron decorative wall piece I liked, so I laid it over the plexi, then sprayed the frosted spray paint. Then I used liquid leading for faux stained glass, where the wrought iron was. For fun, I glued a red glass gem on. I'm considering changing them to beadboard since some people seem to dislike them. I'm not in love with them, I'd prefer seeded glass, but I don't want to spend the $ for these cabinets. I'm going to repaint the light cabinets in a similar warm ivory color, but not sure if I'm going to glaze them again. The first paint job was done a couple years ago and I was in too big a hurry to do it right on some of them, the paint is chipping. I'd never match them, so they're going to be redone. Luckily my kitchen is postage stamp size, so it won't take too long....See MoreBathroom Before and 'Almost There' After
Comments (26)I got the shower curtain at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I actually found it at Target online but the store didn't have them in stock. Google "tree shower curtain" and it should come up. They had it in black or brown tree and also a dark background with a white tree. They are also on eBay but I couldn't wait for shipping. Plus I wanted to see and feel it in person. Be careful - some of them look like fabric shower curtains online but they are vinyl. The one I got at BB&B is fabric and I got a clear liner to go with it....See MoreLink to Before and (Almost) After Sexy Mexi-Kitchen!
Comments (6)Thank you!!! Someone on the forum said that your kitchen should make you gasp a little each morning. That is exactly what this does for me! And I can sit on my couch in the family room and look directly at that cooktop backsplash illuminated by the hood lights. I have spent more than a couple of evenings drinking wine (probably should be margaritas) and doing just that! We're really enjoying the more usable space. Yesterday DD had a friend over to bake some killer cupcakes and I prepared dinner at the same time. She said, "Mom, can you believe we can both work in here at the same time?" Meanwhile, DH, one of the boys and my other DD were all sitting at the counter chatting and visiting with us. Heavenly!! I'm in love with those pendants over the peninsula. They cast a beautiful multicolored glow on the wall and cabinets and really add to the sexy cool feel. Cawaps, that's exactly what I love so much about the tile. I wanted something Mexican, because of all the wonderful memories we have traveling to both the West Coast and Yucatan areas of Mexico. Great family times and great romantic trips as well. This kitchen, for me, captures both! Love the contemporary but still Mexican feel. The resorts have that same vibe. mmhmmgood, the improvement is amazing. When I walk into that part of the house, I don't even recognize it as mine! circuspeanut, the tile comes mounted on mesh in the strips like that. A link to the tile is attached. Comments (12)hey lauribet - thank you! Yes, I think they go equally well with warm and cool tones. I'd describe Semonia as a a warmer grey. We have a lot of wood trim throughout our house (woohoo 70s decor haha). I wanted something modern but wouldn't look weird with all the wood, and think Semonia works really well. We love these floors -- have had them for 1.5 years now and they look good as new, even with our toddler smashing pots and pans on them. Good luck with your remodel! how fun!...See Moreklc
