Rose Fever - what rose grows/blooms in a few hours sun?
Comments (10)Most roses have more blooms and healthier foliage with lots of sun, but some like the Knockout family of roses and 'antique' roses will do well with less than optimum conditions. One of the prettiest plantings I ever saw was a bed of combined red, pink and blush Knockout roses at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. I'll look for a picture. A rose I'm growing now is doing well with not much sun is Julia Child. It's yellow, stays small and is fragrant. It got pretty straggly looking during those rainy weeks, but has put on healthy new foliage and is blooming. My absolute favorite rose for beauty, health, fragrance, large size of bloom and heat resistance is September Morn. Comments (19)Thanks everyone, I've been working really hard on the garden this year and it's nice to see the roses so happy. The rain has been an issue and the blackspot is creeping in. I hppe I can keep it under control. Carol and Sharlene you are totally right, I have Rock & Roll not Rock n Roll. So confusing to me, all of these & or 'n' roses lol. My St. Patrick came from a local nursery and when I saw it he was covered in huge green buds. I had to take him home and he has become one of my favorite impulse buy roses. I do get to the ground die back in winter but so far he keeps coming back. Sara-Ann yeah I don't see pink freedom very often but I also enjoy the blooms very much. Believe it or not that was a scrawny body bag rose from 2012! Most of my roses have bloomed atleast once this year but I am still waiting on probably 10 or so new ones planted this year for their first blooms. I'd say 75% have been in the ground since 2012 or 2013. Thanks for the feedback and conpliments! I love to share my roses with you all and hear your input! Comments (8)Persian Yellow Generally roses like this thrive on benign neglect. It doesn't need pruning according to fancy HT rules. My guess is that it will outgrow the space very quickly, and then you will have to either learn how to prune it to keep it a reasonable size, or move it to a larger location. It doesn't require much at all in the way of fertilizer, and probably less water than it is getting, but that isn't something I'd be familiar with. It isn't a rose that grows around here because it can't deal with eastern amounts of rain. It is a common 'found' rose in the Rockies and the colder, higher elevation parts of California. I'm usually not at all comfortable with giving advice without knowing where the rose is. However, this one has a fairly restricted range where it thrives, so I'm just assuming you live there somewhere....See MoreWill the roses blooming now (early winter) bloom again in the spring?
Comments (8)Even though December is statistically the coldest month ever-blooming roses are often still out at Christmas here, with January being about the only time of the year when roses don't seem to be doing anything - I've had problems with rooting rose cuttings in the ground and then never getting them transplanted because they were in leaf most of the time. Spring for roses here is Feb. In fact a local weather professor says spring in general for us is Feb-Jul, with the annual summer warming and drying not fully overcoming the lingering winter wetness until Jul....See Moreflowersaremusic z5 Eastern WA
