Anyone Else Out There Hoping for Different Appliance Colors
Comments (77)Oooh I love the St Charles idea, Pal. Yum. Your color choice would be ...? I think it also merits pointing out that aside from the general dearth of color, we also have so little choice in finishes today. I'd be much more enamored of the current options if they were only more durable. As a renter in my younger years, I had terrible dented pebbly white, smeary steam-discolored stainless, scratched black glass -- you name it, from the 1980's through the 2000's. None of them was impressive. My 1940's O'Keefe & Merritt stove is porcelain enameled steel, a finish that has been taking serious cooking abuse for over 60 years, and still looks gleaming and fabulous in my kitchen. (It's white too, by the way, although I'd jump for avocado.) Why can't today's manufacturers make a good solid finish like that, in ANY color?...See MoreWhat color direction would YOU take?
Comments (60)Hey CLB, that's awesome! I'm seeing a lot more contrast with the sofa in the second photo--is it a cool color? Just wondering... Snooks, for light and airy I'd ask for a cool grey and for cozy a warm grey....is there such a thing as a totally neutal grey? Just wondering... Robo, I'm already thinking of blackboard paint for the end wall in the kitchen, so I can write reminders to myself b4 going out the door! Instead of the accent wall behind the hutch, I might paint or paper the back of the shelves,,something reversible since it's a family piece. I've started a spreadsheet to store these suggestions & ideas so I don't forget them....See Morebathroom help needed
Comments (20)I have been agonizing over this room for quite a while. I felt like I needed some sort of aha moment or inspiration. Well, I have been looking to see if I could find a shower curtain that might make it all come alive for me. The other day I saw one at Kohls but of course they only had the sample. I went to another Kohls (I live in retail central except for costco. dont get me started) and they were out as well. I looked online and while they show the shower curtain and accessories, the shower curtain is not available to buy. So this morning I figured I would give it one more try and YES at Kohl's # 3 I found it. I brought it home because that is really the only way I can tell and................................ so far, I think I found a winner!!! This is a picture from kohls but I dont know if you can clickon it to see the detail. IT is a very happy blue-green-(even a little bitty stripe of yellow and lavendar-gray) and turquoise. I am hanging it up to see, but I think I really am liking it. I now need to decide on wall color. (thinking pale but not so pale blue/green, but need to decide which one. What do you think? yes no Here is a link that might be useful: click on enlarge to see the pattern close uo...See MoreGoodbye 80s oak, hello to what?
Comments (11)Ah, I don't see the disharmony between the floor and the furniture you have shown us, on my monitor. The light oak floor is very neutral IMO. The way people get into trouble with mixing woods seems to be when they try to bring in the driftwood, the grays, the artificial white, or the very red. Those shades are pickier about playing nicely with natural wood tones. I have an oak floor that was left natural when refinished, but has darkened to more golden (some would call it orangish) tones over the past 20 years. Still, it is living happily with my 1930s era mahogany dining pieces, my very very old, very dark wood secretary, my 1990s ash wood table, dark cherry end tables, and so forth. However, that is just my opinion - and my house -- if you feel that the wood elements are disharmonious, or the floor color is ugly to you, of course you can restain. But, to preserve the prairie feel of your house, I wouldn't make any drastic color change (like going very dark) -- just tweak the tone to one that works better for you....See Moresunnyd82
