is this acceptable trim work for trim around intake vent?

Other than being sloppy with lippage and gaps between the boards, the small box that is inconsistent with the rest of the wainscoting, how would you improve on this so it is aesthetically more pleasing? I do not like the rectangular box above the door. It is not consistent with the look of the wainscoting.

Hmmmm,that's strange. Someone asked about the same problem not more than a couple days ago. Several ideas were presented. Maybe you could look for the thread since it was so recent.

Maybe the soffit route, done well, is worth pursuing, considering the effort spent to group all of the outlets in the chimneys. It's always nice when owners, architects, engineers, and builders consider the placement of roof penetrations (also interior HVAC ducts & terminals, sprinkler heads, etc.) and not leaving it to the whims of an individual HVAC or plumbing tradesperson who may not be considering the aesthetic implications--likely not being aware of the overall design. I'm glad you might delete the chimney window. I remember your earlier posts showing the rest of the house--I recall thinking it was well-thought-out. Can you post or link back to some of your other elevations or 3D? It might help generate some other suggestions. Also, I'm curious if you chose a roof color... (maybe trade those chimneys for that zinc roof you coveted :)

If you are drawing plans at this point and have included space for the ducts, diffusers, and returns, you are way ahead of most architects and residential designers, most of whom don't make any HVAC provisions. Because of this, the HVAC installers are used to putting the returns and diffusers where they want them, not necessarily where the homeowner wants them. We started doing HVAC yesterday, using a carefully selected subcontractor. We spent several hours on site going over all aspects of the the system, including locations of equipment, ducts, dampers, returns, and diffusers. Duct work starts today. It is easily available and heavy enough to work and hold itself. Thinner might actually be better since it will have less of an edge to catch and show. Producing a nice edge is a real issue. Attaching is a nightmare. Various adhesives are normally used for trim. Rivets might provide a ÂlookÂ, but you will still need to attach the trim between the rivets with adhesive. Various epoxies can be used if the surfaces are cleaned and prepared correctly. The biggest problem with adhesives is getting a chemically clean surface.

As others have posted, get rid of the toilet seat cover and any other "cute" stuff that makes it seem "grandma" - meaning no disrespect to grandmas who can be stylish. Any towels should be very modern and hotel/spa in feel. Make sure everything is clean clean and more clean. Investing in a professional cleaner for all areas in the house is money well spent. Otherwise leave it as be because remodeling a bathroom for sale is a slippery slope and given that your bathroom tile is lovely and the fixtures look well with it, I doubt very much that a serious prospective buyer is going to reject the home based on it having "gold" fixtures. I just finished a remodel of bathrooms and my bathroom style is completely unlike this bathroom. However, if I were in the market for a new home, I wouldn't pass on a home if the bathroom wasn't the style that was my personal favorite so long as it was clean and met my functional needs in terms of having a comfortable shower; adequate storage (hate hate hate pedestal sinks because no place to put things. Your bathroom is a perfectly find bathroom - attractive to most people even if it's not the height of trendiness - but I think most people don't have bathrooms that are the height of trendiness anyway - after all how often do people actually remodel a bathroom - and if you change the color of fixtures - that starts a chain reaction - it's not the same as painting or putting up wallpaper or even changing the sconces or mirrors.

You don’t show the rest of the wainscoting...but it appears as if it would be less obtrusive if the whole center was covered with some type of decorative metal screen ...rather than a sectioned .... trimmed ...recessed ...cubby

Coordination of the trades falls to the GC. Either the HVAC duct was located with no consideration of the wainscoting or the wainscoting was a change to the original plans and specs after HVAC rough in.

If it's a supply, I'd suggest installing those in the floor. If it's a return, I'd aim to get it out of a formal area and certainly out of wainscoting.

New home build, return vent. Had no input in the Hvac and location of vents, etc. I have sent photos of what I would like it to look like. It can definitely be aesthetically more pleasing to the eye. It is a shame the home buyer has to micromanage building their own home.

That would be the same D Macky. Why did you start TWO new threads 4 days later on the exact same thing? Continue on your first thread by answering questions, dismissing ideas, or updating thoughts or bringing new information and respect the free time that commenters put into this forum.

BTW there's no way to fix this except by tearing out the wainscot, drywall, and probable rework of studs and sheetmetal.
