Marvin Bi-Fold Exterior Doors

Hi,

I'm in Mass and we're looking to add a sunroom onto our house. Our architect has suggest using Marvin Bi-Fold Doors (https://www.marvin.com/products/collections/signature/ultimate/bi-fold-door?gclid=Cj0KCQjwktKFBhCkARIsAJeDT0hHo-JJVir0YmkUOXqdy2uPQwbqxR78BlqG0cqiwQB6Wpp6GTN4LRsaAmruEALw_wcB)? Does anyone on here have experience with these? Specifically I'm wondering the cost and if there are screen options, and if so, do they work? We're going to look at them in person in a couple of weeks, but people's first hand accounts are always the best.

Sold product from a solid manufacturer, Expect $1200 - 1500 a lineal foot for the product without installation. They have several screen options. I would probably go with there retractable screen were it me. Also not inexpensive but none are.

+1. Nothing about "bi-fold" = inexpensive. When I say nothing, I mean NOTHING.

Just over 7k for the doors which was the lowest I found. La Cantina was close but Marvin, Anderson, Jeld Wen were all over 10k. I did find that most dealers had no clue about their own products and gave me bogus quotes without really looking into getting me a decent price. I think they assume I am willing to spend big on these, but quoting me $10k when I could really get it for $7k is ridiculous. We are using an authorized installer to work with my GC to install the door...this gives me peace of mind AND adds an extra year on the warranty from Nana Wall. Hope to write back in two months with good stories about the doors and the instillation!

These types of doors are very susceptible to installation errors. They require considerably more precision than a typical window or door installation. Most of the issues found with these units are due to installation. With that in mind, be sure your installer is well aware of these challenges. If they haven't installed one before, Marvin offers classes to installers free of charge. They can contact their dealer for more info. "The only damage is to the pocketbook" I'm stealing this phrase sometime in the future..... :)

Got a bid from Marvin doors $17k (Wood) and Panoramic Doors (Vinyl) $10k for a 10’ by 8’ door. Panoramic doors have 10 year warranty and customer service so far has been amazing! Seeing the Marvin door in person I was extremely unimpressed especially for the price. I like the fact that it was explained that Panoramic doors carry the weight at the bottom not the top. I was originally concerned about overall structure with such a large door. I’m finding it hard to reach anyone at Nana wall and getting a quote online is a pain.

Thank the lord we have NanoWall. What would the world be like without NanoWall spamming his way on to websites ! Everyone else has to follow the rules regarding spam but NanoWall somehow does it anyway. Next time i find a small pencil mark on my wall, Im going to call the pro’s at NanoWall to erase it.

Thanks for your responses. I definitely am not expecting any sort of bargains, that's for sure! I'm more curious about the screens. We have the retractable screens in our casement windows and sometimes they snag. I'm wondering that will be a bigger issue when using them on such a large scale opening?

The screen is very nice. It is manufactured for Marvin by a large Chicago company, Centour, I think. If you haven't seen it, you should before investing that much. Also, keep in mind that dogs and children and these expensive screens are not a good mix.

Marvin is a reputable company with a really great product. Screening them is not a problem at all - it can be done from the manufacturer or even aftermarket products are available. Please discuss with your architect whether inswing or outswing bi-fold doors are better for your sunroom.
