How do you keep your white clothes white, or
Comments (13)Oxyclean!! Every couple of months or so, I gather all items that have tough to remove stains and white items. Fill the washer tub with cold/warm water and add clothing. Add about 4 scoops of Oxyclean. Agitate long enough to mix--then leave it overnight. My 44 yr old daughter was with me recently and brought the nastiest looking pink robe you could imagine. Her dog had drug it outside into the mud. Stains were very set. After Mom's treatment, she gasped!! Good stuff when you learn how to use it right. I prepare a lot of old linens for resale. Oxyclean gets the yellow out and yet it is safe for the most delicate linens. karen...See MoreHow do you keep a tile shower clean?
Comments (4)Hard water in and of itself is it's own problem. Mildew in the grout is usually moisture being held in the wall. Today's construction methods; topical membranes, better ventilation, better grout formulations, should eliminate that. Streaky walls? I'm a bar soap guy, for years we used Zest which had no oils. We did absolutely nothing to clean our shower other than a brushing down maybe every 6 months or so. If even that. A few months ago we started getting residue on the walls. Checked, a sure enough Zest reformulated their bar soap. Same holds true for hair care products. Watch the labels. Dark tile will show more than light tile. Glass will show everything. If you go with a hand held shower on a hose, you can use the hand held to rinse down the walls. That'll prevent "dirty water" from drying on the wall and leaving a hazy film of product residue behind....See Morehow do I keep my garden flowering?
Comments (7)It is great that you have cosmos already in flower. What if you collect the seed and keep putting it regularly into seed raising mix? Last year I had about three cycles of cosmos which really helped. I just kept scattering the seed as it didn't have to fit a border as such. If you keep picking the pansies they also keep flowering too. The polyanthus do the same if you keep taking out the dying individual flowers you can extend the flowering time for much longer. Today I planted some penstemon in seed raising mix and hope that it will take off. These plants are quite hardy and have a long flowering period. To buy the tubes can be a bit expensive so I've taken cuttings and also in winter split the root system. Last year my pansies did well and actually are still flowering. A dose of seasol or similar can help keep them going for longer. These days I try to get some polystyrene boxes and put my seeds into these. It is cheaper than buying the mega punnets. If you wanted to replace your pansies you could try snapdragons which self seed well, petunias are good too. If they get leggy you just cut them back and they take off again. Hopefully your lobellia will self seed. I planted some today and they were like tiny ant eggs in size. Good luck....See MoreWhite marks on new shower floor grout! What should I do?
Comments (7)Efflorescence will grow out of the grout and will leave a chalky residue on your fingers if you wipe it. If the installer did not use distilled water when mixing the grout, what you're seeing are the minerals in the water that have gone to the surface of the grout when it was curing. Very common especially if you have hard water. Use a flat head screw driver or a knife to etch the surface of the grout, scraping away at the top layer. You will see the true color of the grout below this top layer. Also please note, if the installer used too much water when cleaning the tile after grouting, this too call pull the color pigment from the grout causing it to look very dull....See Morerttnorton
