Can southern 'mature' ladies do silk curtains?
Comments (106)Fauxchick if you put glue on those fabulous drapes I'll fly down and shoot you myself LOL Having them adjusted profesionally will be quite inexpensive...you're taking the right route there :) Or you could mail them to me and I'll do them...mind you, I may have to hang them for a few years to get the wrinkles out...but when I'm done with them, you can have them right back :oP heh heh I too love this thread...I don't get to play with silk as much as I used to (I used to make quilts that were donated to charities asking my employer for money...in a busy bank, with lenders all around me, you'd see my corner office...Fancy desk, lots of file cabinets, very banker like...but wth? There's a babylock on the table in the corner and several piles of silk on the desk :) I loved being able to sew at work LOL I just pulled baby out of the closet and she's looking at me with great longing...maybe I'll make a drape today...she needs me :) (Unfortunately so does my 3 year old and he's not much help with the fabic!!!)...See MoreAdvice pictures Glass sliding door treatments
Comments (14)doraville - I did an estimate online and it quoted me at $460 for cellular. That's a bit expensive, especially since I'm buying 8 for the windows. I'd rather the sliding panels, I would imagine they are not as bulky as the cellular would be. I think 3/4" is just right, though you're right if you have cabinets there the panels won't work. I have 8" to the right of my sliders so panels won't work if I want them to open to the right, I could open to the left but I will have a credenza of some sort there. UGH! So many decisions, which is why I think the panels like momof3kids would work and they look really nice. momof3- do you have privacy panels?...See MoreFam room window covering advice PLEASE?
Comments (9)@valinsv, thanks for your clarification of how they would work on my doors. But I think this solution still doesn't allow me to open one door up 180* and lay flat against the other, right? And that is how that door is for most of the summer. We open it all the way, then just use the sliding screen door to get in and out (and keep the bugs out.) I don't want to give up that ability, as the door just sticks right out into the room if it's not all the way open or closed. @blondie...I will try today to take a picture of the fabric close-up. It's actaully got reddish and greenish cross-threads, It's not really "pretty" close-up, but it reads a a beautiful beige when you see it. As for the decision, we have leather in the living room, and it does wipe off, but there is absolutely NO coziness factor. No cuddling in with sick kids and lots of blankets--they slide right off. It's cool year round. And the thing I hat e th most is I have to dust it regulaly because everything shows on it--ugh. We also have some of those microfiber ottomans, and those things are a wreck. They always look bad, like they need to be cleaned, b/c someone smooshed banana into it, or wiped a syrupy mouth or a boogary nose on it. And the lines they can draw in them--my sons love to practice their letters on it like a chalkboard! Now, they were not a high-quality, I know, but I'd never get a whole couch in that fabric! I did inherit 2 Fairfield chairs that I love but really need to reupholster, and I think Stainless Steel might do the trick--thanks for the suggestion :)...See MoreDrapery hardware dilemma
Comments (2)That’s a beautiful room! Do you have another photo from a little further back? How will the drapes hang- to the sides of the windows? The trim is lovely and I’d hate to block much of the view (and also it will block the light coming in). I like either a thicker diameter rod or a thin wire that almost disappears. The drapes in my living room are functional but I don’t move them often. With proper construction of the materials they should be ok to move and not become damaged....See Morelynartist
