Running out of ways to use them
Comments (7)OMG.........I've been in egg mode since early this year and can relate. I just took two twelve-yolk pound cakes out of the oven. They are great for use as the base for strawberry short cakes or trifle. I make them in loaf pans and freeze. I take the whites from when I make the cakes and freeze them six per small freezer bag. They shall be used for meringue for baking or pavlovas. Noodles..........make noodles. They freeze and I'm going to take some I've made earlier to serve for the Easter meal. I don't like the ice-cube egg routine. Mine always seem to dry up, no matter how well sealed or how quickly used. But it is an option. When I was freezing the whites last year, I put a pan of water on to a low simmer and would slip the yolks into it. They cook up perfectly round and freeze very well to crumble on salads or spinach. Custards. We had some two nights ago. Homemade mayo. If all else fails and you have more than you can possibly use, the local food kitchen for the poor really appreciates the cage-free dozens we have taken them. The same eggs I am scrambling to use up go for three and up a dozen at the local markets....See MoreEver just run out of ideas?
Comments (10)I can identify with what everyone has said so far. I often rely on the practicalities of a design question to point me in the right direction. How does this area need to function? Which plants would like these conditions, sun/shade, wet/dry, low growing/tall? Then often it is a case of a certain plant that I am in love with and finding the best place to put it. And in the end, even after thinking it through well, and giving attention to care, the end result doesn't please you. Then you try again and see where it is not working and move things around or bring home another great plant to try. I've done that lots of times and have done a lot of moving. Eventually, I have finally succeeded in a pleasing result in some areas, but others I'm still working on. This year, I am finally seeing some maturity with some of our shrubs and perennials and I have thought what a difference that makes. So patience pays off more than I realized. But, when you plant with eventual size in mind, the spaces are very unappealing. So I've planted between and now, for instance, I am going to have to move daffodils out from under shrubs. I like the idea of planting annuals for a season until you find inspiration. I love an annual garden. You may find it works so well, you will keep doing it every year. I keep one bed in full sun that has a mix of perennials and annuals, but it started out with just annuals and that was fun. A garden is so personal. It is a process of learning about yourself as a gardener and your property. The trick I think, is to accept both as they are and with patience just enjoy the process. There isn't a season that I don't find something to really be happy about, but never a season that I'm happy about everything. But if I were, then what would I have to look forward to changing next year? :-)...See MoreToilet runs, stops, runs, stops. Any ideas?
Comments (8)your flapper is leaking water into the bowl. once the tank gets low enough, the valve opens and refills it. then the process starts over again. turn off the shut off valve, add some food coloring tot eh water in teh tank. wait an hour, if the bowl water starts to turn colors, then the flapper is bad or getting a bad seal. if you use those toilet cleaner "mints" that go in the tank, remove them and toss them in teh garbage. they are bad about causing flapper issues....See More'end of run' switch for a series of receptacles?
Comments (8)... even when you do it for light fixtures, you don't wire it as you've described. Switches need to be in SERIES with the load they are controlling, *NOT* PARALLEL. Does the switch need to control the entire circuit? Your best bet is to run a new piece of 12/2 from the switch to the FIRST receptacle it needs to control, and wire it as a switch loop. Alternatively, you could run your 12/2 switch loop to a junction box inserted anywhere in the circuit as long as it is BEFORE the receptacles to be controlled... A switch is not a magical device. When it is off, it is two pieces of wire that are not connected. When you turn it on, it connects the two wires together... So when your switch is "off" in your existing parallel circuit, it behaves as if it's not there (hence the receptacles are on, just like they would be if you'd never installed a switch). When you turn it ON, it connects the black and white wires together, which is not something you ever want to do....See MoreUser
