Comments (8)What square footage are we talking about here? "Has anyone else here done such an extensive remodel/add-on like us, where you almost doubled the size of your house and you are just EXHAUSTED when cleaning it?" No. We built our house to suit us - just the two of us. It's not small, but not huge either. It might be a good thing for you to try to get out and walk daily to build up endurance. LOL!! One suggestion. We have mostly wood floors in our house but do have some tile. I have a vacuum that has an attachment for hard floors and use that on ALL the floors. That way I'm not going from dust mop to broom, etc., etc., etc. Personally, I think a vacuum gets up more. The wood floors get gone over with a LARGE swiffer looking dustmop (has a terry cloth covered head) with hardwood floor cleaner ever so often. The large head covers more space in less time. I have a smaller shark vac that gets used in between vacuumings, if needed. Mainly in the kitchen. Thankfully, our pup doesn't shed. tina...See MoreFollow up to 'I am so stressed out'
Comments (2)What do you do around your house with the kids? DS is 3 and we're home most days. Most of the time when I ask if he wants to go somewhere he says he wants to stay home! LOL We go outside and play on his slide or swim in our small Easy Set pool. He likes to watch TV, play with his toys, paint and color or really anything. He's into helping around the house and being helpful, too. Try involving your son in stuff you're doing. Sometimes it may take longer or you may have a mess to clean up but the kids have so much fun and enjoy it. We try to get out at night or on the weekends. Even then, it's not a lot of time at the store. (He even likes going to the grocery store...he reminds me of things we need to get! LOL) We usually visit family or friends on the weekends one or twice. You could easily just take rides just to look for animals or whatever. Our son isn't around a ton of kids and yet when he is, he makes friends quickly and they get along so I"m not all concerned about him not being in daycare or preschool. Also, I've found that just sitting down and talking to your kids makes them happy and can be fun. Our son will ask a question...like today it was, "Can we take our dog to the fair this week?" and I explained dogs weren't allowed and reasons why. So now he can share that with Daddy when he comes home. I"ve also had to explain why it has to rain or why it thunders (so he's not scared anymore I said that two clouds are fighting over whether it should stay hot or cool off) or why the pool was getting slimy.. A lot of the time that we are talking, I'm also doing something else like preparing supper and he feels he's getting attention and I"m getting my work done, too. Or we can be driving in the car and he'll ask what a road sign means and I've taught him a few and he'll tell us now! Include your son in every day simple stuff and to him it can be fun and it may take care of his boredom. Good luck and no you're not alone. All parents, even parents with seemingly good kids have bad days. We all have days we would like to go on strike, too. You just have to figure out the best way to deal with those days and get through them....See MoreFollow up to earlier post/adoption
Comments (9)Hi, I deeply appreciate your interest and support on my new baby. Very touching. I looked up Whippet (never heard of them until this adoption) and he has many, if not all, the characteristics. I will see if I can figure out how to use my camera again and post a picture. He is a golden color. I took him to the dog park yesterday and used the small dog area - he really was not interested in the other dogs until the very end and then showed mild interest in only one dog. He was more interested in the large dogs on the other side of the fence. I was hesitant to take him there cause there were elephant dogs in there!! He acted quite superior, actually, like he was the King visiting the peasants and there were some pricey dogs there!!! When we had been there about twenty minutes, he had had enough and was very good on the leash. Must like to release some energy and then is willing to walk right beside me with little pulling. He gives a lot of eye contact now and soon will know my deepest secrets. On occasion, he will seek me out in another room, visit briefly and then returns to his new bed or the couch. Hey!!! Lay on the towel, little boy. Loves to be covered up completely and pulls his blanket over his head.....reminds me of my kids when I tried to get them up. I appreciate all of you letting me babble about him - my heart was so broken when Sandy had to be put down over a year ago and it has taken a long time for me to decide we should try again. My only complaint is that he loves to relieve himself on my rosemary bush outside that I have managed to keep alive through one winter so far. I guess he likes the "room deodorant." Small price to pay. Susan...See MoreDogs wake up so early!
Comments (10)Sometimes I actually thank my pup (a little terrier) for getting up at 8 or so. That's the earliest I can get up and function -- my working job starts in the afternoon. I find it amazing that I can take care of a few household things, walk the dog, fix her breakfast and sit down and read a chapter or two -- all before 11! My previous pup was a late sleeper, and we woke about 10. For the current one, if she is woken up by people or dogs outside, I call her to come back up on the bed, then I cuddle her so she can fall asleep again. Usually gives us at least 45 minutes more in bed -- and I love that cuddle time with her! (FORHGTV: Before I had my own dog, I dog-sat for a friend with at least 3 big dogs at a time. I did the same thing you did! They were used to going out really early -- between 6 and 7. Much too early for me! I let them out, then they knew they could either rest in their dog beds in the living room or go back upstairs to bed with me. I usually had at least 1 dog on the bed snoozing--because they really weren't allowed on the beds when their owners were home! They knew to take advantage of it --or me!)...See More
