justgottabme: Yes! excellent plan! The Tv needs to be in that corner next to the fireplace -- either mounted on the wall or sitting on a console or cabinet. Having a cabinet in that spot would anchor that whole corner. And more excellent ideas above too! Love the idea of bookshelves in each of the corners -- perhaps just try basic Ikea Billy shelving -- or other build-it-yourself shelves (try stores like Targer or Walmart)-- just to see if that plan will work for you? Or look for vintage shelving or bookcases on your local Craigs List! Swivel chairs can be found -- check your local Craigs List! But for now -- once you move the TV -- try placing one sofa facing the fireplace -- and another one facing the window -- forming the classic L-shape.

Let go of the idea that you have to have the sofa or any furniture at all against a wall. The best solution is to "float" the sofa, in your case, to face the fireplace. Get a really nice very large rug, put it in the middle of the room to anchor the space, and place the sofa and coffee table on it. Some shelving to the sides of the fireplace would be an ideal place to place a TV--on the right unless you have a huge TV. A nice easy chair on the left of the fireplace under the window with a floor lamp or shelf lamp behind it would make a cozy reading corner yet would add to your conversational grouping. Do a Google search on "floating a sofa"

The current layout creates a hallway through the living room, and doesn't allow you to enjoy the view. I would wall mount the TV to the right of the windows, or put it on a slim console. That heavy console needs to go, and probably the desk. The couch looks fine, if it's comfortable. I would get rattan side chairs. The tile looks to be in good shape, so you could get a sisal rug or a colorful indoor/outdoor one. Do you plan to rent this place out? If so, that needs to be a primary consideration, because renters have a way of destroying things.

It’s a big room. I would put the couch in the middle of the room facing the fireplace/patio door and flank it with the two white chairs. I would put the two brown chairs on either side of the armoire. Good Luck!
