Help-unplanted lilac bushes bloomed in shop
Comments (4)Being indoors just threw them off their normal schedule since - at least here in Minn - they come into bloom in June. We've still got a foot of snow on the ground here too so workable soil is a ways off, but plant them in their permanent spots as soon as the ground is workable. Water them in, but don't fertilize. (The lilac hedge that hides my property is over 100 years old and has never been fertilized.) Don't trim or prune since you may inadvertantly cut next year's blooms - I wouldn't even cut the spent blooms off at this point. Once in the ground, they'll do what lilacs do - except bloom again in June of this year. Over this upcoming growing season, etc. they should acclimate themselves normally to bloom at the right time in 2010....See MoreNo Blooms on Charles Joly Lilac
Comments (3)Common lilacs (Syringa vulgaris) like the 'Charles Joly' need time to mature before they start blooming. That juvenile stage can take as long as 5 years before you will see bloom. 'Miss Kim' is a different species of lilac and one that tends to start blooming at a very young age. Comparing the two is really not advisable - different plants, different habits. You just need to be a bit more patient :-) It will happen....See MoreSyringa Vulgaris: Never blooms
Comments (10)"i m voting on not mature enough ... since the transplant ... and you cant count.. if you did.. flowering in the pot you bought it in ... sooner or later.. you arent going to be able to get to that electric box .... if thats important ... do you see any other lilacs blooming within 10 miles of your place ... lilac set their buds in fall .. you can literally see them .. though very small ... L is rejuvenation pruned .. ALWAYS .. no tip pruning ... EVER .... ken" Actually, it came with the house. I would say it's pretty old, at least dating back to the 80's. I don't think that I have never seen another lilac near my area, there are some here and there up in the mountains (but that's a completely different climate, z6). "Vulgaris shouldn't be capitalized when used after Syringa." I only done that because it is in a title. "Lilacs in northern VA only bloom well after "polar vortex" type winters. If winter is mild, bloom is sparse. Last winter was a doozy and the lilacs were magnificent. Thus, homeowners rushed out to buy lilacs. This year has been extremely mild & those lilacs won't bloom much." It didn't bloom in 2014, which I guess was a polar vortex winter (we got about 4 big snowstorms)....See MoreNeed Boomerang Lilac info
Comments (3)i never fertilize shrubs ... if it grew 2 feet since spring.. one might wonder exactly what is lacking in the soil ... leave a good thing alone ... most lilacs are full sun plants ... 4 hours may or may not be enough ... time will tell ... but if you do end up with problems.. it might be a sun issue.. more than a fert issue ... they are shrubs.. not children.. they dont need to be fed ... imo of course .. a very little of some balanced fert.. isnt going to kill it ... ken...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
