Accent Tile Design for Shower Stall?

I am trying to decide how to accent the back wall of my shower stall. I'm using a muted seafoam subway tile as the background. I am trying to decide between 1) doing a rectangular herringbone pattern accent square using the same subway tile as the background tile (similar to the first example below) ; or 2) filling in the accent rectangle with my floor tile (similar to the second example).

The third photo is of my subway tile and floor tile. I also have trim tile for the border, not shown. At first I was leaning towards option #1 because it's more subtle, and I also have a similar square herringbone subway tile accent over my kitchen stove. Also I was concerned that things will look too busy if I use the the floor tile for the shower wall accent. However my friend said she preferred the idea of using the floor tile. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't think anyone else can decide for you - it really depends on the look you want and whether you'll be disappointed if it's either too bland or too bold! I JUST bookmarked this pic this morning because I thought it was so gorgeous. More bold than your tile, but yours would look stunning with the floor tile applied like this. It's a really pretty choice (the blue).

Yes, the mosaic is bordered by a thin limestone pencil tile. The white tile is thinner than the mosaic, so the pencil tile makes a nice transition between the two. This is not our tile, but it's the picture that inspired what we did with the pencil tile. Laying the tile out on the livingroom floor, just a single tile width, really helped to visualize what pattern we liked. I was going to do a full sheet of masaic (12") as the stripe, but when I laid it out it looked like too much mosaic. We played with the widths of the mosaic by cutting one sheet into 3" rows and adding or taking away sections to make different width strips. Doing this, coupled with taking the width of the cuts neccessary for the white tile into consideration really helped to visualize the look.

This is what we're hoping to do. It *looks* like it doesn't have a curb. Or maybe it does? The gal at our local flooring/tile company says that it's doable because of the size - a smaller area would need a curb.I don't know..this thing doesn't need to be wheelchair accessible. But I really do like the look of a tiled shower rather than a prefab stall. If it won't be cost prohibitive? The other thing - we're doing a bear theme in this bathroom (we've got bears on our property) and found some *great* bear tiles that we can use as accents in the shower. If we tile it, that is. It's a beautiful tile, but I wonder about how you line up the ridges when two tiles meet in a corner. Is one side of your shower more visible - maybe use this tile on one wall only? I would probably put a seam right in the center of either wall, but a good tile installer should be consulted before you order. We used large width Porcelanosa tile with a dimensional wave pattern in our 5 ft powder room - but on one wall only, and we did the seam in the center.

I saw a shower where one entire wall was the fancy patterned tile and the other 3 walls were plain. I think it was posted by Beth H? Maybe she will post that again. It wasn't a strip, it was one of the end walls (skinnier) of a shower.
