That’s a lot of humidity. I don’t think you would get that level of humidity from a few small air leaks around a window and a door. That level of humidity can encourage mild growth though so I would definitely either install a dehumidifier/ get someone out to investigate the cause or both.

Are you on a slab or crawl space ? What region do you live in? Is this with or without running AC?

74% humidity is not coming from a window or door leak. Much more info is needed. How the home was constructed? Slab, crawl space, full basement? HVAC? Area of the country? Gutters? tract home or custom? What has the builder offered as a reason and a solution?

So it’s a new build just finished in dec 2020 it’s on a concrete slab made out of wood with no basement in tampa Florida with the AC running

It appears to be on a hill with water running away from the house so I doubt it would be related to settling water around the house. If you don’t have any visible water from walls, my best guess would be a broken water or sewer pipe in the slab causing the concrete subfloor to evaporate moisture into the dwelling. I will footnote that with “ I am not an expert”.

Reading the original comment again, do you mean your windows are leaking water or they have an air gap?

I know for sure the entire sliding door leaks because of a rain storm it was dripping everywhere and the little window on the side of the house was dripping but those were the only ones that were visible.

What is the outdoor humidity? And your indoor and outdoor temps? Where are you?

I have a cabin in a Redwood Forest: currently 80% outdoors, 60% indoors.

If I want to lower the humidity, I can turn up the heat (60 degrees) or turn on the portable dehumidifier (expensive due to California electrical rates, 30 cents per kilowatt).

One possibility is your HVAC system isn't cycling long enough to remove ambient humidity. I know someone that happened to when they replaced a unit with one too large for the house.

The humidity in tampa is usually pretty high but I keep my AC typically around 72-75. I feel like my AC is constantly going into overcooling to try and make it colder so it’s less humid

I’m guessing the size of the hvac unit since it was suggested the size of the unit might be the cause of the humidity issue.

What is the builder proposing as a fix to the door and window issue? That certainly cannot be helping the situation and needs to be fixed before you end up with a Black Mold mess.

Sounds like you have two problems. Call an HVAC professional about the humidity. Most likely there is something out of whack with that system causing the humidity.

Regarding the windows and doors, its not likely at all that they are the cause of the high humidity in the home, however water leaking is certainly not something to overlook either. I'd have a professional take a look at that as well.

Not sure how "new" the home is as you referred to it as a "new build", but certainly if you can have these things taken care of under warranty that would be ideal.

They have sent an AC company out to check the unit and they said it’s working fine and they checked all the foam insulation and circulating fan and plumbing but nobody seems to know the issue :/ they literally finished building it in December 2020 and I moved in on February 2021

Size of unit refers to the tonnage of the unit not the physical size of the compressor. Geez
