Comments (10)Great photo, Linda! Little bugger looks totally tame, doesn't he? Oh, the rabbits up here LOVE rose canes -- I had a six-foot shrub rose gnawed down to 6" overnight -- so I have only one rose in this garden and it's surrounded with a chicken wire fence. Sigh... But I've never had them eat the annuals I named... probably because there's a wide variety of other things to eat in the neighborhood, and in my garden for that matter! So while I don't doubt that they'd eat it rather than starve (heck, wouldn't YOU? I would), those plants seem to be very low on their list. Oh, and Liquid Fence did not slow the rabbits down one bit for me. Powdered fox urine did, but I tired of re-applying it after every dewy morning. So now I just stick with planting ageratum, snaps, marigolds, alyssum and geraniums!...See MoreI'm a bit fed up with ______ right now
Comments (41)Lefleur1 and prairiemoon--My sure fire earwig bait. I have never set this out in the evening without having some earwigs in the container in the morning. Note--baby earwigs are grey and turn red as they age so don't think it is another bug. Baby earwigs are ravenous when they hatch and can strip a plant down to the stem in 1 night Bait for Earwigs. Equal parts of full salt soy sauce, cooking oil and (molasses or corn syrup). The molasses or syrup is bait to attract them--the oil doesn't allow them to crawl back out and the salt in the soy sauce finishes them off and makes the mixture dark so they think it is just a hole. Put it in a small container" I use those small scoops from laundry soap and place a stone on top but you can use any small container even the bottom of a soda or water bottle and anything for a lid. Cover 1/2 inch of the bottom of the container with the mixture and bury it up to the brim in the soil where you have a problem with them. Prop a lid over it so it doesn't get diluted by rain and so it is a nice dark place for them to hide for the day--ha. When you prop the lid, leave a small space for them to crawl into the container. You might have to wait a couple of days for it to work, but the first time I tried it I used a baby food bottle and it was full to the brim with little grey baby earwigs the next morning. I was surprised at just how many I did get. Try it. It really works...See MoreRight now I'm very discouraged with Craigslist!
Comments (2)I'm sorry--esp. since I just had a very nice experience getting some huge heavy 2'x2' exposed aggregate pavers from c's list and I can't find the post anymore (she must have removed it) to thank the person who gave them to me! She even let me wait a day before coming to get them...there must be a reason why that one didn't work out, is what I tell myself if something from c's list goes awry...the right thing will come along for you all, I know it. Good luck with your house!...See MoreI'm SO ANGRY right now!
Comments (12)My manager said that they were taking bids soon, and probably wouldn't have that company anymore. I know there have been other complaints about them mowing down plants and weed whacking plants to death that were planted outside the courtyards. I explained to her that there was no way anyone could NOT have known that was a garden bed, and she said she'll call them and tell them to leave it alone from now on. She used to live next door to me, so she knows what my beds look like, and is fine with me using the leaves as mulch for now until the ground covers kick in .She agreed that it must be someone new, since they have left that bed and the leaves alone all winter. Probably a new summer hire. Anyway, I'm putting up signs and hoping they can read. My poor little brug babies! All the leaves just shredded right off by the blower....See MoreCarolina Girl (Zone 8b)
