Well, if I’m going to have chips in my granite countertop, I better have been the one to have caused the chips! It would drive me crazy to have chips + for the seam to be off center. But - I am a bit OCD about stuff like that - I’m sure a pro will chime in and let you know how to handle these issues.

The edge on the left side along the sink looks odd to me - is that just a shadow or something in the photo?

That would drive me NUTS.

Stone chips is a fact of nature. Those are small an inconspicuous. Fill with superglue and razor flush after it’s cured. That’s all any fabricator would do. It’s a skill needed for any stone owner. Because you’ll have future chips that need filling.

@NotMyCircus NotMyMonkeys - my last kitchen had granite countertops for 16 years, and there was not one chip. Never sealed it either. Not all granites are the same. Perhaps the OP's granite is one of the more chip-prone ones, or perhaps the fabricator was inexperienced, sloppy, rushed, un-caring, or any combination of those.

You and @Joseph Corlett, LLC have not addressed the seam that is not centered on the sink. The fabricator must have known he made a mistake, as this is Fabricating 101. The apprentice who is 2 months in would know that is a mistake. They must have hoped the homeowner would not notice. Needs a re-do. Since the granite does not look to be one of the rarefied ones, the replacement should be easily made.

The second pic shows the seam is not centered under the faucet. I thought that perhaps the faucet had been installed off-center, but then the third pic shows the seam not centered at the sink's drain.

Thank you for all the responses, very helpful. So it sounds like the chips can be fixed and that the seam should have been centered. Should we be concerned about damage to our cabinets if we have the granite replaced?

Granite counters are so expensive - it should be done correctly. Sometimes the pros on this forum encourage posters to accept errors, like, so, your hard-earned dollars, shrug. Why be enablers for errors and shoddy workmanship I don't get it.

With that edge profile, there are going to be more chips.

Super glue. Move on. Next time, get Corian for near invisible seams.

Yes, Boxerpal, I can see the seam in backsplash. Nice stone-match but the seam is easy to spot.

I am sorry, for any confusion. I was simply giving an example to the original poster of a seam that looks to me done correctly. We like it anyway. I know it is not hidden, it is obvious and can be seen but it looks neat and not messy.

No one will replace granite over something like that. It’s not even visible. It isn’t an industry standard to center seam. And the seam does appear centered. It’s the faucet hole that’s very slightly off. It IS industry standard to have an even reveal around the sink. That’s the last thing to look at, and if it’s good, the job is good, and enjoy your kitchen

The seam is definitely not in the center. it's about ½" off.

The badly off centered sink grid bothers me way more than a tiny bit off center faucet hole.

What pictures am I missing?

Boxerpal, I would have been happy with that seam, too. They did a fabulous job matching stone.

The point is that with granite, you're always going to be able to find the seam without looking too hard. I think the OP's seam looks fine, too. People just have to accept going in that seams in granite are not going to be invisible.

In one month, this will be a nonissue. I'd move on. If you think this requires replacement, I simply can't understand that level of perfectionism.

I suspect and hope that you're right just_janni that soon we will not even notice the seam. I think what is causing us to focus on that seam are those two chips right on the seam and in plain sight as we stand in front of the sink. Am I understanding some of the comments correctly that these can be fixed (fill with glue and level with razor)?

In the third, more distant photo I found it not very noticeable (the slightly off seam).

Joe Corlett, please advise - before filling the chips with glue, would you use a pen to darken the spot, or will the glue naturally blend in the chip?

OP, about the pen.... my granite installer used an obviously lighter material in the seam, so it was really visible. I think he had matched the color to the stone before he used color enhancing sealer on it (against my wishes, btw) which darkened the stone......I ended up using a dark permanent marker in irregular dabs on the seam to blend it in.

I'd throw a little color matched Sharpie on before the super glue.

These are kitchen countertops not a space telescope. The faucet holes could probably be elongated a bit, enough to align with the seam better. A good fabricator doesn't mind going the extra mile to satisfy a customer, but the best fabricators avoid anal retentive customers to begin with.
