I think you have too many shades of white. Swiss Coffee is a very creamy white and your counters are a grayish white.

I like the white of the cabinets and the gray tone of the countertop backsplash.

How about the same white as the cabinets on the walls or an other color entirely?

You could wait until the cabinets and countertops are installed, then pick the color for the walls in the light of the actual kitchen.

@houssaon The GC is painting the walls now and then the cabinets and countertops goes up. So we need to pick the color now. From the feedback here it seem like we should minimize the shades of whites so I am thinking we can go with the cabinet white color for ceiling (for brighter white in ceiling look) and countertop white on the walls something which has greyish tint to it.

First, that is not really a shaker door. Second, why are you limited to Kelly Moore . Find a Ben Moore store. Put "Decorator White" on the ceiling and the walls. Flat on the ceiling and eggshell on the walls, satin finish on any trim. You don't need this many decisions......... a change of mind later? Paint the walls! People do this MANY times over the life of a bath : )

If the counter is more gray than white it will be fine. Most people have agreeably-contrasting counters on their vanities. The sinks will either match the counter or the vanity. Try to avoid a combination of white and creamy white.

SINKS ARE WHITE. PERIOD. They match the toilet. It's obsessing on a white issue that need not exist, as an issue,

@Jan Moyer, this is her kitchen. Not a bathroom. @remocelitornot: the best idea is to install the counters and cabinets THEN choose a backsplash. Right now the strong white cabinets and countertop look like a deliberate white-and-light grey combination. Are you able to decide the backsplash later? It might “need” more texture when these two elements are installed. Don’t get upset. This will be fine.

And don’t stress about the walls. You can repaint them when the room is done if a soft grey all color will help to enhance the theme. You’re in a classic med-renovation panic. We all get there about now.

Yes, s oops orry on the toilet reference. But.....it still not be that complicated. Her "splash" matches her counter at this point. If she decides tile? Yes later is great. But I love a repeat of counter as "splash" ...just saying. : )

I love RedRyder's advice especially about not stressing over the wall color. As she said that can be changed. I personally love all white kitchens. They look very clean and fresh. You can always add color with accessories and artwork. Good luck!

It's really impossible for anyone to discern the nuances of whites from a computer monitor. What looks too white, too gray, too creamy on my monitor may not appear the same on anyone else's. Unfortunately, you need to look at all the colors in situ to decide if they work together. Also, blanket statements that "there are too many whites," or "avoid combinations of white and creamy white" don't ring true. It all depends on context, and of course lighting.

What I would suggest is to have someone with a trained eye, like a designer or color consultant, help you select the best combination by viewing all your options in your space with your light.

You are right, that countertop is not white next to a pure white. BUT it would read "white" next to my dark cabinets. So, is white and gray kitchen what you love? I think they look lovely together, but that will not look like a white counter if that was your vision.

If you want all white, then the ceiling and walls should be the same color white, whether it’s Kelly Moore or something different altogether. Either match or contrast, but don’t do something in between which is what I think is bothering you because it looks “off”. Can you get your cabinets, lighting and countertop in first and then choose your paint color? And no, those aren’t shaker style cabinets (but that hardly matters for the purpose of this discussion). JAN MOYER just likes to get her digs in every chance she gets (and in ALL CAPS too so she sounds extra important). Good luck with your project. You’ve already identified the issue and that’s half the battle!

@Norwood - Not that I read this in your comment but I've been reticent to equate white to clean. The roots of white as being 'clean' is an interesting history. "Whiteness made its way into homes and objects as outward reflections of personal cleanliness. In 1925, the architect Le Corbusier declared in “The Law of Ripolin” (referring to a popular brand of paint) that whitewashed walls had a spiritual and moral cleansing power. Every citizen, he wrote, should “replace his hangings, his damasks, his wall-papers, his stencils, with a plain coat of white ripolin. His home is made clean … Everything is shown as it is. Then comes inner cleanness.”

White as a sign of wealth, purity, health and vigor, and also in it's darkness "“a new interest in whiteness both as an indicator that clothes were clean, but also a racial indicator of a kind of refinement and civility.”

@carolae, true that it’s free advice (most often good, I might add) but it’s so unnecessary to serve up that free advice with a side of snark and condescension, yes?

Cabs look fine w/the quartz. both are a cooler, blue white.

Try BM Calm on your walls. it's a soft grayish/white. very pretty.

Eider White is another nice white

The cabinets and counters look nice together.

I don't know why you chose two different paint colors, although sometimes people choose a whiter white on trim as Beth has shown.

I do think that once your kitchen things are in the kitchen, you won't really notice the minor differences between your two whites anyway.

Right now you are honing in on these samples because you have nothing else to look at.

A normal kitchen has other colors and textures for the eye to see such as a bowl of fruit, cutting boards, a plant or flowers, a colored dishtowel, a colored floor mat, etc.

When you have these other things around, the fine whites and their similarities and/or differences won't flip you out so much.
