Got my order from Santa Rosa Gardens today
Comments (6)The company appears to me to be a specialty grass nusery, I probably would avoid ordering from them with daylilies in the future. The ones they offer are common older diploids, used in landscaping design work. Check out maryotts site, its better to spend money on two daylilies that you really want then to spend half the money on 10 you may not want later. I learned this the hardway over the years. Less is sometimes more. Maryotts is probably the best reseller of daylilies out there, they do hybridize there own, but thats not what they are known for. Comments (4)I ordered two plants from Hosta Patch, and the second one was 'Lakeside Roy El'. Was a 'Super Size' as they call it. Cost 15 bucks, and is a good-sized plant with 10 eyes and some very healthy-looking early growth on it. What I was not happy with is they obviously cut the roots way back before they shipped it. I'm not really angry about it, but WHY?? That's rookie cr*p. They cut a lot of it off. Maybe it was a new guy. I hope they don't do this with all their 'Super Size' plants. Now it has 'Under Size' roots. LOL Oh well, live and learn. EDIT: : ( I still love 'The Roy'!! Don B. Comments (4)My hosta from Hallson's were still in the pip stage when they arrived a few weeks ago, so I didn't get the thrill of opening the greenery. I was thinking yesterday that I should line up my Hallson beauties and take a picture. They are all large leaved, full and healthy. bk...See MoreGot my Jim's Hostas shipment today---whadya think?
Comments (10)I intend to plant my latest acquisitions Sunday. Just had no time to plant them Friday and could not plant them today. They have been in a small container with water over their roots, under lights, where Zizu cannot reach them (that is a rare thing in my home--someplace Zizu the amazing leaper cannot reach). Coconut Custard's leaves have yellowed a bit, but there are new green leaves in the center. And, the plant fell into 2 complete but small plants. Can hardly wait to plant them Sunday. Smiling Sailor seems to be a green hosta with a small whitish streak up the middle of the leaves. Does not seem to be a popular variety. Oh well, it was free....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
