Desiging a multi-level island or peninsula
Comments (10)Control, Thanks for you points. A physical barrier as well as a visual barrier is food for thought. Breezy, Thanks for your help. Your comment on the second DW not on right of sink is not at all silly. We have debated the second DW location endlessly. My worry with having it to the right of the sink is it will be far from the storage cupboard that will house dishes (those are all around where we have the two DWs now). Also, I had been led to believe it is best not to cross clean-up zones with preps zones where possible (in other words DW behind main prep space is not great). I know Controlfreakecs in another post felt strongly the DWs would work best on either side of sink. If it goes on the right of the big clean-up sink it will be a bit of a journey to unload -- do you think the benefits of moving one DW is worth the unloading chore? The WD can so move. I haven't really set the storage in the peninsula and island. Garbage in our City is a bit bulky as we have to sort it three ways. I will see to it that we have lots of convient storage on the long peninsula and if that means some garbage is bumped I will do it. I like your idea of increasing the space between prep sink and cooktop. However, that will make an 11 foot peninsula with a seam for counter material. Another idea might be to go down to a 30 inch cooktop. What do you think about this? RE: Alternate spot for pantry items if tall shelf at end of peninsula is scraped; I might be able to move the microwave and place pantry drawers above and below the steam oven. From what I understand the steam oven needs to be elevated (steam in face scenario if it is below counter). I can also move the regular oven to put other frequently used pantry items in its spot. Does this work better? I appreciate everyone's comments for tweaking this plan. Carol...See MoreDoes this Karndean Van Gogh LVP texture layer look smudgy to you?
Comments (13)Hello ishop19, We've successfully installed the Van Gogh line in many homes, and have never come across the point of the "texture" looking like smudges. I do see what you're referring to in your photos, and I'd have to say that it must part of the top layers' added "texture." It's definitely not a mallet mark. Mallet marks do make distinct marks, (and not generally needed for LVT installation, we time the adhesive to optimal tack, and use weighted rollers) but can easily be removed from vinyl. I would agree with picking up one box, and staggering the seams in an area of your home, just to lay it out a bit ( so you can see how the light hits the flooring on a larger scale). If you still see the "smudges" that you're referring to, and wiping it down with windex doesn't remove them, than I'd say that it's, without a doubt, part of the graining texture pattern. Remember, you did bring home a floor sample, so who knows what those planks have been through. Karndean makes some really beautiful products, and I'm sure that if this particular color will "drive you nuts," you'll be able to find a nice alternative. Comments (244)We installed 2600 sf of Happy Feet Pinnacle LVP in our new build and am very happy with it. i had read through this group many times prior but decided with grown kids it was more important to us to have a matte look and low maintenance than risk wearing out our socks. I definitely prefer the feel of natural wood under bare feet but this LVP is not wearing out our socks or our bare feet. So far it feels like a great decision. interesting anecdotal observation - when in our old house, which had hardwood throughout, when we laid out various LVP samples and left them there for a week, our dog stated laying on the Happy Feet sample section. Never the other samples. 🤔...See MoreLVP - do you regret not going with variable lengths?
Comments (3)IMO it depneds on how good the installer is . We have all 36” planks and my hubby installed and there is no way to see that repeat once in a while in the floor . I think look at the flooring you like buy a box and play with it to see how much you really see the plank size I think you will be surprised. There is uasually a good mix of different pattern on the planks ....See Morejestermom
