I hate it!! Hate!! Hate! I want my old page back!!
Comments (9)I believe I had IE, but not sure which version. Now, I am not sure WHAT one is up! Right now there are 3 searches running- there are 3 'file card tabs' at the top of the page. Two of them have a small red/green/blue/yellow flag icon, the third has the 'Gardenweb' icon- the page that I am on now. Walnut.. I did not download anything that I am aware of.. If I move my curser to the top nothing happens- there is a 'wrench' on the far right, but when I click on it, it opens a list that has 'Google Chrome' near the bottom, yet the icon on the far left of the page (this page), is the 'Yahoo' icon. I don't even have a way to open my 'favorites' now. Did IE7 have favorites/back/forward arrows, file/edit/view/tools/help in the upper left hand corner?? I am wondering if I am in 'Google Chrome' or IE9 by some chance? How do I check which browser I am set to go to auto? Tx...See MoreHelp, please! I hate my kitchen! (pic)
Comments (64)One day to remove, one day to remake the wall, one day to set, one day to grout...I think that's fair really. It is a time consuming job and you want him to do it carefully so the cabinets and counter aren't damaged in the process. You know, I'd like to suggest something entirely different which you might hate, but I'll do it anyhoo :) DH had your kitchen in his texas place, almost identical in tones so we had to giggle when we saw this post. I see you love earth tones by your pottery etc and you love slate and granite....honey you're wasting your time trying to make the space bright when the things you love are not bright. You just haven't embraced your dark side yet :) Come, step over to the dark side...earth tones and rich stones are devine when accented properly. You need to go with a rich tone on your walls like a brick or deep red, even a really deep green or gold (look to your crocks for inspiration). They'll make your cabinets sing and your stone will become a star. Hang a textured (dupioni or tapestry) drapery on the window top, soft and slouchy because you have so many hard edges) with a rich deep trim on it. CHANGE YOUR LIGHTING!!! You are entirely underlit and the white shades don't work with anything you've got going in your room. Go with beautiful rich amber shades and larger, more prevalent lighting as well as under and upper cabinet lighting (and to do that on the cheap, just put a bunch of christmas light strings on the top of the cabinet scattered about, you'll be amazed how much that helps your gloomy issue here). Embrace the darkside luke...umm I mean susan :) And your lovely kitchen will become a rich paradise you don't mind being in. You're half way there...step over the line :) And remember, a can of paint is WAY cheaper than a new backsplash isn't it? What's the worst thing that can happen???? You paint again. But in DH's kitchen, who everyone said was too dark when he tried to sell initially....I went with a deep umber tone on the walls and it sold three days later to a gal who described it as wonderfully cozy and rich :)...See MoreMaybe I won't hate my kitchen any more-lighter backsplash(pics)
Comments (52)lynn2006, thanks for the link. I did find it. I think I've got it narrowed down to a 2x4 in silver sands slate or a quartzite in the golden white or oracle. I think the brick shape is a nice medium between the diamond I have now (and like the shape of) and 4x4 squares I don't care so much for.The store we hoped to buy it at (prices are great) doesn't carry Crossville, and that's where we'll be stopping on our way home from vacation, but I really want to look at the Oracle too so maybe we'll have to make an another trip to the Big City. Thanks very much to you and to all....See MoreHelp - I hate my kitchen island
Comments (18)I wouldn't worry about range and dishwasher opposite each other. I have a VERY narrow kitchen, and the doors would totally clash--like, almost total overlap. In 8 years, I have never wanted to open them both at the same time. It's not like you leave the open door open, anyway. As for standing at the range, and wanting to put tuff in the dishwasher? That doesn't happen that often, anyway. The dishwasher gets used at cleanup, not during prep. And if something *is* going into the dishwasher during prep, it's almost *always* the cook himself/herself who is putting it in there. I like the squared-off counter. I like having the microwave oven off to the side as it is; that's brilliant. personally, I like the raised area for sitting. in fact, other than that angled corner (which I don't like), I mostly like your island. But rhome410 is right about this: "to be able to fit more than one worker in the kitchen at a time." Remember that those people are usually doing different sorts of things. One is cooking on the range; the other is making salad w/ stuff from the fridge. Also, look at prep spaces, and whether people standing at each of them will be in the same spot. (w/ the sink: there's some "standing at the sink" during prep, but not a whole lot--stuff gets rinsed for 2 minutes, and that's it. Maybe scraping a garbage into the sink disposal unit) The standing during *prep* is being done at the stovetop, and even moreso in front of counter areas. Look at a typical menu, one for everyday, and one for Big Party Events (esp. big party events). What items will other people help with, and where would they conveniently stand to do it?...See MoreAsh Teh
