Maple tree in decline, and I think I might know why...
Comments (11)I'm afraid it will have to come down, and I really don't want to do that if I can help it. ===>>> dont be afraid ... just get rid of it ... if the prior owner leaf you a paisley counter top in puce ... [thats not even a hit with google.. lol] ....would you spend hundreds of dollars 'fixing it .... even if retro was your goal ... i am sure.. in your new house.. you renovated things to your own liking... and you should be doing the same thing.. in the garden ... and.. as i said.. there is nothing to be afraid of .... listen to me.. my first house.. i spent 5 years .. trying to save every nightmare.. for the history of the house ... in year 5.. the light went on.. and i finally got rid of the last nightmare ... hallelujah ... all my problems were gone.. be done with this .. unless you pic makes your words so wrong ... then i might change my mind ... i then spent the nest 5 years.. planting all kinds of my mistakes ... and then moved.. and left them for the next owners ... lol ... trees come.. trees go.. but for the cost.. so what ... time for you to plant your own tree ... and i suggests anywhere but exactly where this one is ... just move over a few feet ... at a minimum ... we can help you select and plant a new tree .. when the time comes ... good luck.. lets see the pix.. ken...See MoreI think I might be a bit confused
Comments (10)Golden, I was told by a professional grower that the only way that a Hoya leaf will produce a plant is if you get some of the stem tissue with it. Now it's possible when you pull a leaf off that you will get just a bit of the tissue, enough to eventually get some growth from it. When a leaf pops off a plant, I always pop it in the pot, and they nearly always root. But in the 30+ years I've been growing, I've not once gotten a rooted leaf that produced new growth. I continue to do it only because I figure those rooted leaves hide the soil and give the appearance of a fuller pot. Denise in Omaha...See MoreI think I might be in Florida!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments (4)David- We're supposed to get one of those cool shots. Right now it's 76 with 91% humidity. We're on our way to 98 and 100 tomorrow. By Thursday our high is supposed to be 77. Unautre- I'm sorry for the dry conditions. We've had above average rain which is why it's so humid. Last year was warmer but it would still drop into the 60s at night and be comfortable when the sun went down. Not this year, you just get smacked by the humidity the second you walk out of the house....See MoreI think I'm going to quit gardening...
Comments (35)Actually with some money, and time , one can bring in sand, silt and compost to till into your soil. People do it ALL THE TIME around where I live. Hell around here one is considered lucky if you have clay to play around with. Most are bringing in truckloads of dirt from the bulk soil guy to build up 10" of soil ontop of their limestone. My sister lived on a lava flow. That was hard gardening too, but once amended she had some cool stuff. I am digging out a ditch in solid limestone marl. I am moving that marl to fill in some pot holes in my drive, wheel barrow by wheel barrow. Then I will fill it with dirt and also build a retaining wall so I can deepen the soil. Do I like that I have to do this,..NO, but it is what Is my lot to do. My land is beautiful but it has cr@p for soil. Do I make fun of it ,YES.I have made Marl the name for my inner beyatch (as they say down here). I have jokes about needing teeth protectors for pickaxing and how I want my very own jack hammer for Christmas ( that's not a joke). Do I whine about it? Maybe for short periods of time. Then I remind myself that this is MY CHOICE to do. MY choice to live her, . So, shut my yapper. If I don't like this I can take up theater, scuba diving, rock climbing, penuchle, bridge, map making, knitting, dying and spinning wool. Or I can sit on my back porch and look through my teary foggy eyes with my long island ice tea gripped in my fist and ponder about of what could or should be all afternoon long. Go ahead and quite gardening. Long extended whining will drive those around you nuts . Find something that gives you happiness and serenity , if soil amending is not your cup of tea, or MOVE to that perfect loamy lot. You might find ir infested with crazy ants and rattlesnakes....See MoreBill M.
