Stewartstonian Azalea

Hi,
I wanted to get a plant for my wife for Mother's Day. I was at Lowe's and picked a Stewartstonian Azalea. I know very little about plants, but thought the size and sunlight requirement could work in a spot we had to plant it. I planted it yesterday. Our soil has a moderate amount of clay. I mixed some soil and water with baking soda and got no fizz so I figure it's not acidic. I'm not much of a gardener, but should I be doing anything to give the Azalea the best chance at doing well such as adding acid to the soil somehow or anything else?
Thanks.
Charles
