Is it too late to trim tree form Purple Smoke Bush
Comments (1)I trim out unruly stems throughout the year until July. I just cut back an American Smoketree that was 5' tall with only a few leaves on top all the way back to 12". It started to back bud and is leafing out now. I wonder if its too late to cut it back to bare stems but I wouldn't hesitate to trim any unruly growth....See MoreThe pink, red, and purple-ish bushes/trees near Phoenix?
Comments (42)I went to the Central Velley last summer for the first time (Fresno area) and I too was blown away by the incredible Crape's growing all over the place. The entire region is irrigated, even the strip of land between the local interstate lanes! It was all very lush and yards were filled with everything from palms to paper birch trees! Yes..paper birch in Fresno. But, in those areas that no longer received irrigation...forget about it...not a green thing in sight...totally dead. I guess unlimited sun + unlimited irrigation + great soil = grow anything you want....See MoreWhat is this bush? Purple flower late summer
Comments (4)Mature crape myrtles range anywhere from 1' to 30' or more depending on variety. Sizes specified, without referencing a particular variety, really has no meaning. It's much better to choose a variety that is appropriate to the location, rather than fighting nature for the life of the tree or shrub....See MorePurple Bush With Purple Flowers ?
Comments (6)Thanks so much guys. Apparently it's definitely a sheenas gold Duranta and I must have been to about 20 shops to find a large one (above 1 metre to fill the gap in the hedge) :(. Have tried binning a markets nurseries...even posted an ad on gumtree but no luck whatsoever. One nursery offered to ring around but gave up. I live on a busy road and is such a shame to have a gap right in the middle.....grrr. Thank you all for responding....just wish I could find one now...... :)...See Morediggerdee zone 6 CT
