Front porch ideas

Hi! My crafty daughter suggested we do a Mother's Day project, making a wreath or something for my front porch. I don't think a wreath would work on my door, but am wondering if we should put a wreath on the siding instead, maybe in between the 2 windows that are to the right of the door? Or maybe plant a flower box to put on the porch? Love the porch, but not sure how to decorate it. Any ideas?

Cute house! I think adding flower boxes on the windows would look great.

Very cute well kept house.
Flower boxes is a good idea but are a lot of maintenance, watering cleaning.....
I would update lighting and maybe the railing and posts. But really doesn’t need much. Maybe a porch swing
( and if you ever need a new door I’d do something symmetrical)

Your front door doesn't need to be centered in your front porch. Remove the bushes from and dig out the ground left of the sidewalk, tossing the dirt over to the right side. Build your front porch the same width as the cantilevered two story part of the home and at least eight feet deep with a forward facing gable roof with its point between the two windows. Use thick sturdy posts.

Do you have a photo of your house and a sketch of your plan? Adding a porch will darken the rooms inside, so reducing the window size may not be a good choice.

I'm glad you are updating the bay(bow), but I don't like the clipped gable end. It is a interesting detail that makes your home more modern. I would not complicate the roof with another gable. It just emphasizes the three car garage. I think the stone gable portico is heavy and too traditional. How about a shed roof portico? Or a flat roof with a minimal pitch? With a modern door it will add presence to the entry. Can you remove the stone between the original two garages and make them one? I would put an arbor over them at any rate to break up the three garages. This color and a darker gray will compliment your stone.

From my perspective . . the awning style over the glass doors in the foreground should be repeated over the front door for architectural consistency .. I'd keep the cedar with clear stain to tie to outdoor chairs as the wood tone is not available to most and results then in a higher end complete look . . blue will make that look more orange, so I suggest you stay with deep greens and blacks if you keep the cedar tone. I'd keep the stone entry steps and just add the braces and metal roof wide and higher than the middle trim board over the front door for shelter . . you'll get a more consistent look with existing materials and spend less.

I ended up putting wreaths below the outside door lights. Like you I was very hesitant to put anything on the door. I do have window boxes under the lower windows. However with a covered porch nothing ever grew and they are messy. Water did not evaporate and the sun was never on them until very late in the afternoon. You might try hanging baskets over or slightly out over the railings. I put mine out from the railings so water wouldn’t drip on them. You have a beautiful home. Best of luck to you.
