12" quartz backsplashes: just too much?

I like the 12" idea too especially with the wall mounted faucets and vessel sinks. I would also not be opposed to the splash going all the way up but with the 12" if a future resident did decide to add some contrasting tile accent they could. I think you are on the right track and this would be appealing to me if I were looking at the place to live. It has the type of personal characteristics that could be made to go with either modern or traditional tastes. Good luck!...See MoreMy two tone kitchen reveal sans backsplash
Comments (28)I haven't been here in a while, I have missed seeing and hearing about all the new kitchens! I thought I would post an update, now that we have lived with our kitchen for over a year. I really love my two tone cabinets, the cherry base cabinets are warm and inviting and the mushroom wall cabinets keep the kitchen from being too dark. After all the angst of the decision, I am so glad I went with the solid wall of cabinets. And I am still in awe of my granite, do not for one single second regret the money spent on it! We ended up doing a stacked beige subway tile for the backsplash, with a herringbone pattern behind the range and I am very happy with my choice. As for appliances, I still love my microwave drawer, I use it every day and the only complaint I have is that the panel doesn't light up well. And I absolutely adore my fridge, love it so much we got the same one for my son! The produce drawer is still my favorite feature, and the ice maker my least favorite. We have never run out of ice, but we are a small family and when we have company, we always use bagged ice. But I can see this being an issue for a larger family without a second fridge with ice maker. I am very happy with my Bosch dishwasher, it does a great job and I've never had the goop issue some were having when I bought mine. The big miss in my kitchen is the range, I should have gone with induction. And I really dislike the surface of my range, it is a pain to keep clean, I miss the ease of my Thermador cooktop. And if I had it to do over again, I would have done drawers in the two base cabinets that don't have them. I still cannot believe how much more organized my kitchen is because of the drawer bases! I had a hard time wrapping my brain around how they would function for me, but after living with my kitchen for a year, I would do an all drawer kitchen in a heartbeat. Overall, I am so grateful to have a kitchen that is both functional and beautiful, and I so appreciate all the advice and encouragement I got from this forum!...See MoreBacksplash help - too much?
Comments (23)greenthumbfish - I found mine at Ceramic Tileworks in Maple Grove, MN. (It's made by Florida Tile.) Their website is ceramictileworksmn.com. The medallion is not shown on their website, but I know they had 3 more in stock. Give them a call. I see that southcypress.com has it online, but it is about $45 more than what I paid at Ceramic Tileworks. Not sure what either place charges for shipping. HTH! I love the piece and can't wait to see it on the wall. ccoombs - Can you provide more details/pictures of what you've decided to do? I hope you'll post pictures of your backsplash progress. I have searched and searched and haven't found pictures of these metal inserts/rope installed. Thanks!! Good luck with your install:) remodelfla - Thanks for your suggestion and encouragement. I'll take a look and see what the ceramic store has for a matching liner and how that looks with the medallion....See Morehow much of this wall would you tile for backsplash
Comments (22)No, Beth, what I said was that I wouldn't tile above just one window when there's two windows in close proximity. I would treat them equally. In that scenario the charcoal tile would be everywhere and it could make it appear cave-like. That means charcoal tile on the stove wall, the entire wall around the main window, the smaller window, around the door, the nook, and the side wall up to the ceiling. Since snarky is not tiling the main window, I don't see the need of tiling around the small window. It would look better to continue the paint color that's around the main window around the small window. That's IMO!! You have yours, which I am not rudely criticizing. If you're going to tile the side wall near the nook, snarky, take it to the ceiling. Don't just float it on to the side wall at shelf level....See Morelindanewc
