THIS is why I order Austin roses from David Austin Roses.
Comments (32)Rebecca- your roses are gorgeous but so much work. I live in Massachusetts. It is so difficult to even dig a hole 10 inches deep with all the rock, boulders and ledge so I try to buy only own root roses. I have gotten some wonderful own root roses from DA and have some more scheduled for delivery next week. I hope they add more own root to their collections. I recently ordered 'Queen of Sweden' and 'Windermere' which is by far my healthiest DA rose and covers herself with delicate soft blush pink blooms from early summer till fall. She is cane hardy in my Z5b-6a garden. The only negative is lack of the "to die for" strong perfume scent that Austins are so known for. sharon...See MoreMary Magdalene - my first David Austin rose this spring!
Comments (25)Beautiful, Ann! This rose is on my wishlist - since DA has discontinued it, I hope someone else carries it in the future! (I just checked Help Me Find - they don't have the US patent listed, but it was introduced in the UK in 1998, so it should be off patent soon - HMF has the Australia patent as the year 2000, so if the US patent was also 2000, I think it should be off patent this year? Yay!!!!!)...See MoreDavid Austin Rose - The Ancient Mariner (3rd year)
Comments (14)Mark, absolutely but keep in mind that my garden looks the best only around mid to late April and late November, and if the weather and insects don't ruin it lol. This spring my garden is inferior when compared to last year because of the sub 20 degree that we had and the thrips......See MoreDavid Austin Rose - Eustacia Vye (1st year)
Comments (24)I planted Eustacia Vye last spring bareroot from David Austin. Flowers bleached white and slow growing but that is only in 6 hours of sun starting at noon. Good health though and fragrance is yummy up close. Only two flushes but the second was barely a flush. In my situation I think it deserves another year at least. @Rose Paris What is your climate/zone like? I have Gabriel Oak coming this spring. I'm hoping for some nice color with fragrance and hopefully decent health....See MoreHoang Ton - Zone 9a
