Hello, My avocado is 3 years old. Except summer time, it is always difficult time for it. Due to cold and windy weather, Avocado is always in-door during these seasons. There is not enough sun light in my place, so during day time I turn on bulb to provide additional light to it. Everything was relatively alright with avocado till recently. A few days ago, the bottom leaves started to turn brown at the middle + I can see yellow pattern on the leaves. The process is very quick (within several days). From time to time, I was able to see a small worm in the pot, but It seemed like not to be a problem at that time. But now, I not sure. I water it everyday around 150 ml (room temperature). From my opinion the pot is big enough. Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Yes, younger leaves are actually the most sensitive. I grew up in Westchester...and I know your weather is good for avos. But, this Santa Ana condition (coming in again tomorrow) is rough on the trees. Actually, dwarf trees are the most vulnerable because of their limited roots to take up moisture. Your soil is probably pretty sandy...so you need to be diligent about keeping your soil moist. I have shadecloth that I use on occasion to combat intense sunlight during heatwaves. Also, avos do shed their leaves (all at once) in the Fall (usually). ED of Somis

Hi i live in Singapore, hot and humid country. I am experiencing the same situation as lext01. The bottom leaves are consistently turning brown, i water deeply till water runs out from bottom of pot and only water when it feels dry from my finger poke into the soil. The plant is growing with new leaves, and gets 2pm to 6pm sun daily...

Looks like fertilizer leaf tip burn to me. I‘d water more too, it may have compounded the fertilizer burn issue being under watered. A 1 gph drip emitter at 15 minutes of watering is 1/4 gallon of water. That type of drip emitter is made to run for several hours to give plants enough water. I’d also place more than one emitter at the edge of the soil line where you dug the planting hole so you can saturate the entire root ball. The trunk looks like it’s sun burned too. Get rid of the bamboo stick with the green tape, that was put there for when it’s transported to the nursery and your home. Once the tree is planted you can remove the stick so the trunk can sway in the wind and get more girth. Hope this helps. Evan
