Carrier Infinity vs Comfort
Comments (1)I agree--I see no benefit/wise investment in going up to the Infinity condensers since you say they will only run for 3 months/year--not even for the control advantage. The 2-ton is already around 1/2 ton oversized for the upstairs (worse humidity control--Manual J calculates the load for extreme conditions anyway), so if I was going with a Comfort condenser for the upstairs I'd ask my contractor about an 018 (1.5 ton/18,000 BTU) unit. I see why he did this for the Infinity series, though. Anyway, to get to the point, I'd take the Comfort condensers, or maybe even the Performance condensers for a midway option, and call it a day. I would put these with variable speed air handlers, though. Good luck. Sounds like you have a good contractor already--Manual J's are hard to come by around here it seems!...See MoreCarrier Performance AC & Carrier Infinity Furnace Pricing
Comments (21)Wow. I feel like a total sucker now. I have 2 estimates for Carrier equipment, each from a Northern NJ contractor: Estimate 1: AC 2.5 Ton 15 SEER 24APA530 Coil CNPVP3017ATA Furnace 70kBTU/80% 58CVA070-14 Honeywell Vision Pro Thermostat Honeywell HE-265 Humidifier Aprilaire 2200 air filter Replace chimney liner $10,347 Estimate 2 Same ac Same coil Same furnace Replace chimney liner Thermostat unknown no filter no humidifier $10,056 Estimate 3 (Lennox) AC: 2.5 ton 13 SEER (Variable Speed) Coil: C33-31 Furnace: 90k BTU 80% AFUE Thermo: Honeywell PRO 4000 Aprilaire 400 Humidifier Chimney liner replacement $9,610 These include installation into existing forced hot air duct system....See MoreTrane XLi vs Carrier Infinity
Comments (2)These are comparable systems. I assume the Carrier furnace model is the 58CVA 70 KBTU model. It will require the Infinity controller, no substitute. Wifi Mdl available if interested. On the Trane, nice system as well. I assume the 80 or 60 KBTU XV80 furnace. It will require a true two stage thermostat, either the Trane XL900 or HW VP IAQ stat Mdl 9421. WiFi Mdl available if interested. On Trane condenser, you might check the XR17 AC model. What about filter media cabinets? You will need one. Both systems only best matching brand evap coils. No third party coils allowed. I wouldn't have a problem with either system. I probably would let price, dealer reputation, and your comfort with the dealer be my guide. I prefer authorized Carrier and Trane dealers. IMO...See MoreCarrier Performance vs. Infinity
Comments (23)What exactly are you looking for in a system? What is your budget? You must use the the larger air handler to get the best performance/efficiency numbers. The Bryant 280 is the equivalent to Carrier's GreenSpeed Pump. It will be pricey and for your location, I don't think it's worth it. I still like the Performance configuration I listed in my earlier post. Regarding heat strips. Each KW heat strip yields 3420 BTUs. I would not have 15 KW unless it was staged in 5 KW increments. Electric service should be checked for capacity. I like the HP condenser, air handler, and heat strips to be on separate circuits. Here is a look at various Bryant Evolution model configurations with the Evolution 006 air handler. 5158824 Active Systems EVOLUTION EXTREME PURON HP BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS 280ANV036****A FE4ANB006+UI 1200 875 650 35000 14.50 20.50 33400 13.00 31600 1 HRCU-A-CB 207 522 Yes 5462795 Active Systems BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS EVOLUTION 15 PURON HP BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS 285BNA036****B FE4ANB006+UI 1050 35400 12.50 15.00 33800 8.50 21600 1 HRCU-A-CB 276 754 Yes 5476675 Active Systems BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS EVOLUTION 16 PURON HP BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS 286BNA036****C* FE4ANB006+UI 1050 840 36800 13.20 17.00 35600 9.00 22600 1 HRCU-A-CB 262 754 5537737 Active Systems BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS EVOLUTION 19 PURON HP BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS 289BNA036****C FE4ANB006+UI 1210 925 36600 13.70 19.00 37000 10.00 22800 1 HRCU-A-CB 233 678 Yes I would weigh the cost on the Performance 16 or Bryant equivalent, Bryant 280 Extreme, and Bryant 286 Evolution 16 systems. You definitely want the Evolution controller with any of the Evolution systems. The Edge Thermidistat would be fine for Carrier Performance 16 or Bryant equivalent. The dealer who quoted the 002 air handler should be tossed overboard. IMO This post was edited by tigerdunes on Sat, Oct 26, 13 at 8:26...See Moretigerdunes
