Comments (25)Trailrunner, I'm not going to be much help with the beadboard. Home Depot offered two kinds: 1/4" pre-primed for painting, and 3/8" plywood. We bought the 3/8", and it seemed much heavier and more rigid than the 1/4". I don't know the size of the sheets, but I can tell you they were lying flat in the plywood aisle at HD. All I did was pay for them.....my son got them home and onto the porch, and the contractor took it from there. He installed them over the original double-plank (hemlock) construction of my old farmhouse. We used the same beadboard for the ceiling as well. I hope this small amount of information helps. Comments (40)I'd still be concerned about your mother and a walker in the bathroom. How much room is there between the shower and the toilet? Plus where will grab bars go? There's so much extra room around the space that you'll need to put in floor grab bars which are a heck of a lot uglier than coming in and seeing a toilet. I do agree about the doorway into the guest room. However I don't like where she placed it because now you are limited where you can put the bed and I think the solution is worse. The width of the bedroom is 10'8" or 128" wide. Putting the bed between the wall and the closet on the window side (so the foot of the bed faces the entry door), means you now only have 68" of space if you use a queen sized bed. (A queen mattress is 60" wide) So that means now your mother only has 34" of walking space. Not even a full 3" on either side of the bed. If there's a bed frame, then it's even less. If you place the bed on the left wall you only have 126" and you need 3' for the door swing. So now whoever is on the window side of the room has even less space to move around. So while it solves the problem of the two doors, it really creates another problem because of the bed. By keeping all doors on one side, and keeping the original size of the bedroom, the bed can be placed between the windows because the original room width was 11' or 132". That gives a full 3' on each side of the bed. Also note that clothes don't turn corners in closets. That's the reason I left that area blank. It can be hanging for things like ties or belts, etc....See Morehelp with living room attached to an alcove!
Comments (17)You may be saying well this is what I already have going. So here is another layout. But with this you will see a different option other than the sectional. We know that you want to keep it but it may work out better if you would consider this layout with a couch and chair. The sectional takes over your space so much that it controls the whole room. Just a thought for your consideration. So here is a layout with the desk between the two windows and two storage benches with pillow backing as Deco suggested and a swival chair instead of the added sectional piece. For your consideration:...See MoreHELP - laundry room/utility room
Comments (6)100% custom made. (i love your room. I wish I could redo one for myself@!) if you want to relocate the plumbing valves, it's simple enough to do. call in a plumber. as for the sink. you could get your farmhouse sink first, have a cabinet maker make it to whatever height. or, try a standard base cabinet and use the drop in farmhouse sink. Or, cheaper, find a base cabinet in your size, (unfinished if you can) modify the top part for your sink, then paint. cut your countertop to go around it in the back. but it appears you want really vintage looking. Your inspiration pics are custom made pieces. you can find cabinets that look like this, Or you could modify an antique chest: once you get your countertop in place, you aren't going to have a lot of space on that rack to hang something. you could do a wood shelf above the top of the countertop. this space is larger than yours, but you see how the shelf would work the shaker peg hanger you can find all over. paint yourself, and add a little ledge above it https://www.amazon.com/Oak-Shaker-Peg-Rack-Shelf/dp/B00DUXP4E6 here's an oak one this one is cute w/the clothesline/hangers. maybe you could open up one of your cabs for open cubbies? get a butcher block for the countertop, fabrciate for the sink. the little apothecary drawers are custom made w/the cabinet you are going to want the sink lower than the tops of the W&D. like this i love both of these w/the sink in the middle you could make something like this out of wood to hold your sink. the top is walnut. have you tried looking at Laundry Room cabinets? You could do this: what's your flooring? vinyl? you can paint it and stencil it if you want a diff design or color...See Morekris1958
