Comments (5)Oaktown, my comments in the other thread were specifically about that plan, as shown. When drives and walks are designed (rather than simply constructed), and integrated with the architecture of the house and with "soft" landscape materials and lighting, they can be very handsome and appealing, IMO. The key is "design", so that the architecture and the landscape are integral together. The same thinking applies to these elements both in the daytime and at night. Without thought and design, however, paving of whatever material, just becomes a utilitarian material, ultimately deteriorating with use, and without care, an eyesore that may detracting visually and from property values. This is just another example of how site and house are inherently linked and should be considered as a whole. Sounds like that's what you are doing. Good luck with your project....See MoreHardwood near garage entry to house?
Comments (3)jgs7691 - I'm sticking with the hardwood. I can't find anything else that will work. This is an entry to the house that only my husband and I and our two dogs will use. It's a small area that leads to the laundry room (which will be tile) a larger foyer area with two closets and the master bedroom. It will look like a crossword puzzle if I use different flooring. We're in New England so during the messy weather we're going to have to leave our shoes in the garage - very cold piggies! I'll also use a runner/throw rug and hope for the best. Your beagles probably won't be a problem, I'd be more worried about teenage boys. :) Good Luck...See MoreZero step entry from garage to house

Comments (21)This is not the front door or main entry , but the entrance we ( DH and I) use most so I just want it to be functional but attractive. We do have shoe racks and mats in the garage but it's really not a spacious garage . I just want the rug/mat to be pretty and be an additional space to step out the mud/leaves. The flooring is LVP which was just installed over the summer. While the examples with the slate and tile are lovely, they just wouldn't work in this area. The waterhog ones would make sense in the garage or outside the front door. Again, for LVP I believe the latex or rubber backing is not to be used. When you come in through the front door, there is a foyer and then continued along is this hallway which you do see if you are entering either the kitchen or the dining/living room. It is also on the route (lol) to the powder room so it's visible. The rug that is currently there is definitely better than the bath mats that were there- and I am pretty sure I will be returning it. I would love to find something that would just be "right". I wonder if I should look for a darker rug. This is what we have at the front door.... I don't even remember where I got it from as it moved from the last house and I believe I bought it probably about 15 years ago. And you can see the shoes laying there. Pardon my foot. I took this just after install. :)...See MoreMay Construction, Inc.
