Purple Sprouting Broc - never 'sprouted'
Comments (6)farmerdill is right. I sow my PSB seed in April, plant it out in June/July and expect to start eating in February/March the following year. If your plants are 4 feet high they may be getting too much N since mine are rarely over 3 feet. But that might also be if you are growing a generic old fashioned type and not a named cultivar. We can get named varieties over here including F1 PSB and we generally divide it into Early PSB and Late PSB. Also, if you have not grown it before, don't expect the big heads you get on green summer broc. It's more like sprigs. But IMO it is equal to asparagus if fresh, steamed quickly and served with butter. I far prefer it to green broc. I don't know your climate but I imagine it is too cold for PSB to overwinter. But if you have the space I'd leave it in and see what happens. Once it starts to bud up pick it. Don't expect it to get any bigger. It will just flower....See MoreWhat hasn't sprouted yet (list)...
Comments (36)Hang in there Terrene on that Polemonium; mine just started germinating about a week ago (after I had STOPPED look down the sprout of the jug - do you think it's one of those "a watched pot never boils" senerios?!!!) I have about 15 containers out of over 200 that have not germinated. Some of those are "doubles" of the same plant (different variety or different seed source) and those I have pretty much given up on if the "twin" has sprouted weeks ago. A few (Like Toad Lily) were new to me this year and I thought they were goners and then "Wa-LA" sprouts appeared. I won't toss anything till Memorial day....See MoreNo sprouts yet
Comments (4)Wait. Most germinate within a couple weeks but some take much longer. I've had brug seeds sprout after a couple months. I had one come up in a pot of Mexican Petunias that I'd planted in recycled potting mix. As long as they don't appear to be rotted they should eventually sprout. You mentioned that you were using Pro-mix. Did you pre-moisten the soil and are you getting good contact with the seeds? Karyn...See MoreTime from plant till sprout.
Comments (5)so far I've started: Trinidad Congo Red Brain Strain Yellow Brain Strain 7pot Douglah Scotch Bonnet x 7pot Jonah Sepia Serpent (choc scorpion x douglah) Chocolate scorpion Madballz (choc bhut x yellow 7pot) Unknown 7pot 1 Unknown 7pot 2 White 7pot Tiny Tabasco Thai dragon Tiny Thai Yellow Fatalii Red Devil's Tongue Yellow Devil's Tongue Bonda Ma Jacques Carolina Reaper Brown moruga red 7pot primo Orange primo cross JayâÂÂs peach ghost scorpion Chocolate naga x brain strain all but the red & yellow fatalii, the BMJ, douglah, and the tiny thai have sprouted. some came up in 4-5 days, others took upwards of 2 weeks to sprout. but I just have them in peat moss mixed with perlite, sitting in my back yard (it's gotten down to the 40's a few times and I didn't bring them in) so taking a while is no surprise. the carolina reaper came up in 5 days (fastest one yet), followed by the thai dragons which took 6 days. the ones that haven't started might be duds though, it's been at least 2 weeks. so I might have to try to start more....See MoreMzTeaze
