Bremuda Grass (Assistance Pls -- Experts Needed)
Comments (8)Yard - Have mature fruit trees that may cast shadows, but good sun otherwise Maintenance - would like to take it easy and what the grass grow... Mowing once a week but pls no more. Can fertilized but donÂt want to spend a ton of $$$. Hum I don't know what to say other than consider option B, a different grass variety. Bermuda, at least any worth having in a yard really requires twice a week mowing and monthly fertilizer applications during the growing season. In LA I suspect that is 10 to 12 months per year and with 20,000/ft2 is quite a bit of money. I mean you can get away with once a week mowing and 3 or 4 fertilizer applications, but the results IMO are less than satisfactory. Two other problems you face is location is pollution and the shade trees. Bermuda likes neither of them However I have one idea that will take care of most of your issues except the shade issue. There is a common Bermuda grass called Santa Ana. It has high pollution and salinity resistance. It is a low input type which means it does not need to be kept real short and a lot of fertilizer. You can mow it at 3 inches down to 2 inches and should only need 3 or 4 fertilizer application per year to keep it green and lush. Santa Ana is not the finest texture or darkest green, but none of the common types are. Santa Ana is a good choice for you with the severe limitations you are putting on yourself. But warning if the shade trees cast large and deep shade, no Bermuda grass will grow there. Bermuda needs at least 6 hours of direct sun light....See MoreOK all you experts out there - ID this one pls!
Comments (9)My thought when I saw this was first Sandra Elizabeth but the second thought was it may be Hyperion Elite by Klehm which is a dormant tet 36X 7 ext and noc and fragrant. Though a EM registered it goes off more Mid for me and is still going. As your daylily has been living in a pot rooted through the bottom into the ground it's hard to tell but my older Hyperion I don't think is branched quit the way the photo you posted up above, it's branched but differently. While I am zone 5 westcentral Illinois, my Hyperion finished it's last about a week ago and it has a habit of a bit of a weaker scape leaning until a few buds as gone off. My Sandra Elizabeth has not started yet, though close, she runs for me between 28 and 33ish in height here. This year with all my rain I think closer to 36". Pretty either one, enjoy....See MoreBill V, Mogoct, & Other Tile Experts--Pls Help w/ Kitchen BS ?s
Comments (7)Thanks for the input and advice Stonetech & Mongoct. LOL on turning the burners down! I still consider myself to be on a learning curve with this pro rangetop!! I was looking at the tumbled stone we have and it's interesting--its like they took a honed tile, laid it out flat and chipped away at the top layers. The bottom layers are still intact & smooth. Any more thoughts on the grout getting stained by grease and tomato splatters? How easy should it be to clean? That's probably DH's biggest concern. Grease splatters are much more common in our house than tomato sauce (we don't have a grill yet, so all grilling is done in a grill pan on the rangetop). I definitely want to make sure that we won't end up with dark grease splotches on the grout that I can't get clean. I am so not feeling the sanded grout, so will do everything possible to make sure whatever tile I choose can be set with 1/16" or narrower grout lines. Any suggestions on what brand/type to buy?...See MoreFound concrete column- column experts, pls advise
Comments (4)OH, OH, OH - what a SUPER FIND, in your own yard! Lucky duck. It's a perfect subject for mosaics. Mortar the two together, and you could even sit it on a larger concrete pad. For the top, under your gazing ball you can mortar another smaller stepping stone, or a round plant saucer turned over. Since you've seen everyone's albums, on my front column - listed in "My Queendom", under the giant glass ball on top is a large plant saucer overturned. Makes a perfect place to place your finial. All kinds of things can be purchased for finials. In my album - Shea's Tower - listed in "Tower Installation" - I used a resin thingy from Hobby Lobby.
