I've been doing family stuff and just sat back down to read the new posts and also share another drawing. I did go back to the cabinet pantry and not a walk-in. Seems silly to move the window down about 12in and if we added another it would get even more expensive. The rest of the project involves family room work/expansion as well as updating a powder and full bath and new floors everywhere except the bedrooms. It's going to have a big price tag overall needless to say! Mama Goose I think two windows would also leave us with almost no uppers but would let in a lot of nice light :) I should also mention there is a brown fence about 7 ft from the window so there is no view at all sadly. And as far as a drawer microwave or one down low I really don't like the idea of it being low for us or the kids. Seems to be awkward for actual use although looks nice down low I agree. So, I kept most of what I had earlier and really think just a 30in single basin stainless sink will be great for us. I did remove the walk-in pantry and contractor would do some really nice pull out shelves inside to make the most of the deep space. I traced the basic measurements since my old drawing was getting hard to read. KR I'll see if I can figure out how to send my email to you also. Since we took out the big pantry does that help with spacing now?

We moved the fridge because the old was 21 cuft and 2" less than the new one. The old already cut off part of our doorway so the new one would be even worse. That door leads to the back hall and we want to keep it. Leelee--you are right. Thankfully these pics are just to show layout and are not the actual cabinets or counters that we are choosing. I hope to do tile to the cabinets. That little counter (which will likely be angled) next to the fridge were potential phone and mail drop zones. Not ideal but that's what we currently have as the kitchen is the room right after the laundry/entryway that one walks in from.

Lisa, butterfly sinks are the worst. You drip everything everywhere. Corner sinks waste a lot of space, no matter what configuration that you choose. Reducing the space they occupy helps the rest of the cabinets have more room, and give you more usable storage. That 50/50 sink occupies 42" in both directions for a cabinet. Even then, the sink front is further back that it would be on a straight sink run. If you could move plumbing at all, that would be one change that I'd recommend. But it leaves the windows in awkward locations. A 25" single corner sink can be installed closer to the front in a corner configuration, making it easier on your back. They are large enough for an oven rack, or refrigerator drawer. Most people put everything in the DW these days, so a good DW partner to that sink will help you a lot. It also allows for more space to be given over to usable storage.

Our previous home had a double swinging door into the laundry room. That laundry room was located off a hallway between the garage and kitchen. I have to say that door stayed open 90% of the time in the 13 years we lived there. I have no idea why I did not use it as planned. But you got to have a door to close off when guest come over! Door just past the Butler's Pantry I am planning on having another in our new home for the laundry room that will be located in a hallway between the family room and our bedroom. I will also have one from kitchen to Dining Room (mainly to keep the dog out, but I would also like to have a little separation from the dining guest when entertaining. Kitchen noise!) My last dining room was opened to the kitchen. I recently toured a home that had a hidden pantry. Love it, and may try to mimic in new house. Here it is On another note, I am so glad that I saw this thread!!! My new pantry will be 8' x 10'. I had planned to have 2 small sliding doors to enter from our back hallway. Like shown. I am not a trendy person, but wanted to have one trendy item (even though they are on the way out.) After all the discussion on this thread, I now realize that I would probably not use the doors...especially if my hands are full of pantry items. A double swinging door will make much more sense. Not to mention being less expensive. I intend on using it this time! Can you guess how I voted for you? And so you know, an outer swing door also works. Had one in another previous home. The pantry was directly off of our kitchen, and in the path of the kitchen entrance, so it had to remained closed. Worked perfectly! Out-swing door to walk-in pantry
