Don't paint gutters unless you must. You don't have to. The Almond windows and gutters are the color baseline from which you have to work. Means you should be looking at warmer tones in the roof category. Driftwood, weatherwoods, Bark type color names are usually where you find those warmer tones. Pewters, charcoals, silver, steel - those are the kind of roof color names that likely will not harmonize easily with the almond windows and gutters. With that said, can not go by color names alone. It comes down to carefully evaluating samples. Sway off from harmonizing the roof color with the baseline elements you have to work from, windows and gutters, and you will make nailing a paint color scheme harder. Choose your roof, ideally get it on the house and then choose new paint color scheme. Blues *might* be an option but it depends on how the roof comes out.

For anyone curious, here she is with one coat of SW Creamy. Please ignore the mess of ladders and scaffolding and weeds-- I am not currently living in the house, so things get a bit messy in between my visits. I alternate between really liking it and not liking it, but I’m not sure if it’s just because I’ve never seen this house not be white white and so my mind is playing tricks on me because it is no longer the white my brain expects. (this is with basically full sun-- I happen to like the color in this photo) (again in sun) I am holding off on doing a second coat until I decide whether I’m happy enough with the color. For some reason now I’m feeling like I should have gone with either a darker tan/greige with cream trim...ugh I was so sure I wanted an ivory color, but it just looks so different between sun and shade. I’m a pretty indecisive person, so I knew this was going to happen. Does anyone have a suggestion for front door color? When I thought I was going to love this body color (and maybe I do, I'm just not sure yet because of the sun vs shade issue), I was considering a front door color somewhere on the spectrum between dusty pink and aged- brick red because I thought it would look nice with the cream and the green roof. It's a little out of my comfort zone-- I'm more of a traditionalist (like the typical New England white house with dark green shutters and matching door), but I thought it might be complimentary. I don't really know enough about colors to be confident in that, however. The front door is technically the door under the porch; would I also paint the door to the mudroom bump out to match? getting confused by too many options....

What roof did you decide on? Our house is brick but we are also trying to decide between mission brown and weathered wood. I don’t want to regret choosing a roof that’s too light in color. I agree that the charcoal is too dark, but the slate is too light and has a green tinge to it. It’s a very hard choice!

Thanks for all the great comments, ideas and thoughts! This helps so much! The reason we are painting it is because we had to add, remove and change windows on the house because we changed the footprint of the inside in order to get a first floor bedroom and bathroom. The house was built in the 50's and the only 2 bedrooms and only bathroom were on the the second floor. We enclosed side porch on the left side of the house and added an addition to the back which we bricked as well. The brick matches pretty well but you can still see where we added 5 windows and one door and closed up a window and a door in another area. Most are on the sides and back of the house. The first picture actually shows the new front window (left) before the brick was toothed in around it. I will take a picture of the house after the brick has been toothed in and post it.
