Susan, i'm gonna have to talk to Ric, he mentioned wanting to do a trade but never told me he had this plant. Looks like he's been holding back on me!!!! No really Ric's a good guy and an excellent trade partner. I've been dealing with him for several years now and have never been disappointed with anything that he's sent to me and he often sends extras. Sue if I stopped buying hoyas life wold have no meaning!!!! I'm a junkie and I admit it!!! hoyas are very muck like crack for me ( and no i've never done the real thing) maybe I need an intervention!!!! I can only imagine what it's like for a drug addict trying to get off of whatever it is that they're on because I know what it wold be like for me if I couldn't get any new hoyas for a year!!!! I'd most likely be down at the funny farm in one of those tight white jackets with my arms wrapped around my back jumping up and down and bouncing off the walls!!!!! Denise, the second listing could have very easily been overlooked as there was only one listing separating the 2 kentianas. If you scrolled down too fast like I did the first time I saw the listing,chances are you went right over it without even knowing. The last plant with the option to buy now is gone and it was a forum member who got it because they sent me an email jokingly saying that they need to be hung from the highest tree for letting me lead them into temptation!!!! Mike this is also new to me. I am aware that the Thai's have a new variegated form of hoya obscura (which they are clinging tightly to) but this one apparently has been riding under the radar for a while especially if someone has a plant of it large enough to propagate already. I want to know how the plant came about. Was it just some vines on a mother plant that had variegation on them or did man have a hand in it. I don't know just how true this is but I was told some years ago, from a source who should know that if seeds from a plant were exposed to the slightest amount of radiation that the seedlings would be variegated. maybe the next time a hoya seed pods ripens i'll throw them into the microwave for 1 second and then plant them and see what happens. I want it to be seed from a hoya like lambii can you imagine what a variegated hoya lambii would look like!!!

Xuan, I know what you mean about the long, leafless vines. So many of my Hoyas will get those, and once they lose what I call the "leaf buds" (those teeny-tiny nubbins that usually turn into leaves...), I cut them off. Today, I found two Hoyas, rigida & aldrichii, that had grown a vine with 2 or three leafless nodes, then a single leaf had popped. I don't much like that look, either, so I cut them back and am rooting at the node before the sigle leaf. I find that any kind of pruning automatically starts the growth process, so I anticipate that both of these plants will now kick out some new growth. In a matter of about 2 weeks, our days are going to start to get a few minutes longer each day, which should also initiate some new growth. Even though it's absolutely frigid here right now, I'm looking forward to the few extra minutes of daylight we'll start seeing here after the 21st... I imagine where you are, your days don't grow significantly shorter, do they? We're down to right about 9 hours of daylight a day. I lived on Guam for a couple years back in the early 80's and I'm pretty sure it's geographical coordinates are pretty close to Vietnam's and the days stayed almost exactly 12 hours of sun every day, year round. And the weather was pretty much the same, 365 days a year - about 20 minutes of rain each day, then heat up to about 90 F or above. Ideal for growing Hoyas, I bet! I didn't have any back then, because they wouldn't have let me bring them back to the states... Denise in Omaha

Mini update: I changed out the soil and have kept it dry. The roots actually looked fine, no evidence of root rot. Unfortunately its condition has not improved. It is still losing any leaves that develop black spots. Those little brown ones turned out to be nothing. If it does not stabilize I will treat it for fungus just in case. One thing I did not mention is that it smells odd. I've never had a kentiana so I don't know if it is normal, but I think the leaves smell like a hermit crab cage. I have no other comparison. Very weird and unpleasant.

Looks like my nummularoides! Edited to add that it is difficult to catch the slight pubescense of these particular leaves on camera and to add thatsome of my nummulariodes leaves have that dimpling. IMHO, the leaves on Susan's nummulariodes are more acute at the apex than cv.'s Mathilde and Chuoke. Also, they lack the deeper green and silver splash of cv.'s M and C. The corolllas on the flowers of that peduncle are probably disolored due to them being older. One thing that does puzzle me, but not much, since I don't pay much attention to this one when it blooms (it is REALLY fragrant and I move it outside because the scent gives me a headache), is how pink the pedicels are!
