Add transom within existing door frame
Comments (1)Doable, but it takes a little more than adding a 2x4. The least expensive way is to remove the old door and frame, add the necessary framing for a new door and window, install the new glass, and a prehung door assembly. The glass will need to be thicker than normal window glass since the door opening and closing will stress it. Probably 3/16" tempered glass. A good glass company should know. It could be done by removing the old door and frame and rework the old frame. But the labor involved would be far more than installing a new prehung....See MoreShould I add windows?
Comments (8)I would say add the windows in the bathroom, specially the one next to toilet. that way you can let fresh air from time to time, without opening the window behind the tub. for master bedroom, how about adding a big double or a triple to match the bottom two floors ? Three separate windows does not look as impressive as a one triple window. I edited the picture with a triple. Double was looking a bit off balance to me. you can play with it - may be double window but bigger size..etc. You can have a small seating area / bench inside. Or even think about a bump out with a bench....See MoreshouldI add a window?

Comments (4)I believe that if a wall is more than 10 feet high it must be framed with 2x6 studs instead of 2x4 studs, so that would require rebuilding the supporting wall(s). As far as how difficult it is to raise and rebuild the roof itself, its really hard to provide any opinion without seeing a picture of the current setup. Bruce...See MoreHU-187528210
