Shaws farm sink vs. holes in countertop vs. faucet types...
Comments (11)Every single one of you has given me excellent advice here, thank you! Artemis78 and pinch_me - yes I've been planning/hoping for a wall-mounted faucet, along with the idea of being sure to have enough extra tile to fill it in later should I go the deck-mounted route in the [hopefully distant] future. I asked my contractor and he said it's no big deal to just block off that wall plumbing at a later date and have it re-routed to the deck should I change my mind later. That seems like the best compromise. Now it's just back to trying to find a wall-mounted faucet that has a sprayer option and isn't too obnoxiously large. The 3 options appear to be: the kind that have the external hose that has a wall-mounted cradle (if that's the right word) or hook, but then the hose just dangles in the sink; or the Jaclo Original Steam Valve wall faucet which has the pull-off hose (camouflaged to look at a short distance as if no hose is sitting atop the gooseneck), but the goosenecks are very high - possibly too high; or getting a solid stainless steel wall-mounted faucet (so far it's either Jaclo or Kohler's HiRise brands only, that I can find anyway) and then get the new Kohler independent HiRise side spray that's unfortunately deck-mounted but would match either of those brands nicely cause it too is solid stainless steel in the same offered finishes (brushed or polished). But putting a hole in the deck seems to defeat the purpose. The problem with the Kohler HiRise wall faucet is that it's very plain looking and w/ my intended marble subway tile backsplash, I thought it needed porcelain levers to fit in better. The Jaclo offers GORGEOUS porcelain (as well as cross/wheel) handles in both white and black with a thin silver (stainless) strip on them even. It's an amazing touch - especially the unpredictably attractive black levers. I just gotta determine whether that's just too darn high a gooseneck for my tiny space. At the moment I'm thinking that or else throwing in the towel and getting a single-hole deck-mounted faucet to save money since I'm going so far over budget...now that I know they have hole covers anyway (should I switch to something different, later)! :)...See MoreDornbracht or Waterworks faucet?
Comments (17)FWIW, and I realize the thread is old, but I have very recent experience with Dornbracht customer service I would like to share. It’s the pits! I bought near-$1000 of Dornbracht fixtures installed in my master bath. It’s been 7.5 years and the cartridges need replacing. Ok, perhaps the hard water in my area is a factor in their early demise. I can accept that. The screws with blue/red (cold/hot) plastic caps fell off within the first 3-4 years. I hadn’t thought about inquiring into a warranty at the time until my contractor happened to mention that there was a lifetime warranty. Now over 5 years old, Dornbracht customer service says the warranty is void. For two lousy screws! I don’t want free cartridges and this and that, just the two screws with the caps. MEANTIME, I called HANSGROHE about the kitchen faucet, same age, and they are sending me a replacement part with very little hassle. If you can even call emailing a photo to them a hassle, which is a totally reasonable request. HANSGROHE 4 EVER <3...See MoreWaterworks vs. Lefroy Brooks vs. Perrin & Rowe
Comments (8)It's clear that I framed my question very poorly. I certainly don't expect to add $300k in value simply by using nice faucets. This would be part of a much broader high-end gut renovation. $200 PSF increase would be coming from doing an A renovation, rather than the type of B/B+ renovation that is more typical for this building. That being said, I guess my question is really twofold: 1) If I'm doing a high-end renovation, does that mean I have to use Waterworks/Lefroy/etc., or would using Kohler/Newport Brass/etc. faucets that cost 60-80% as much effectively check the box for 98% of potential buyers? 2) If I do need to really go all-out on fixtures, do particular brands tend to carry a great deal more luxury cache? I think the Lefroy Brooks stuff is beautiful, but I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago. Are there certain brands that, for whatever reason, tend to deliver far greater bang for the buck? chisue: You're probably right that these questions are better suited to a local realtor, but there seem to be a lot of folks here experienced in all areas of real estate, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask....See Moredelta vs graff which one gives a better product and better warranty
Comments (23)I love love live the way my Graff fixtures look. Sadly it has been one technical issue after another. Don’t try to blame the rusty water coming out of one of the two lavatory faucets on my pipes. Mind you I have lived here seven years and never had problems. After many many hostile correspondence from them I figured out that the setscrew that held the aerator and was not stainless and had rusted. Therefore all the water coming out of the aerator which was also rusted is Rusty. It ruined the pop-up drain my sink in the faucet spout. Then I had my gorgeous tub Phil installed they sent me a stainless handle even though it’s a polished nickel fixture. They had to send me a new nickel handle. Then after it was installed the spout would never stop dripping. Then I had to have the plumber come back and graft sent a new cartridge. The plumber came back the third time to install the brand new fixture that Graf sent. This one drips from the spout but not quite as badly however anytime you turn the Fossett on the hand held shower pours water and it gets all over the floor needless to say. So they are two for three of screwed up products.I called them on this last issue and they are claiming that this was tested before they sent it to me, however it arrived sealed in plastic in the original packaging so I’m not quite sure how they sealed it. They are now suggesting that it is clogged with debris and buildup and that that is why it is not working. I did not realize it was not working properly until the same day it was installed. Prior to that it was sealed in plastic in the original packaging. I absolutely adore my fixtures it is what they use in high-end hotels in Saint Barts. But if I had to do over I would be using Brizo all day long. I am super super bummed and I’m getting ready to pay for I can’t remember if it’s my fourth or fifth plumber visit...See MoreHome Captured
