We are repurposing the cabinets from another space and are adding to the existing set. I've included pictures of the prior layout these cabinets were used in just to show what we are working with if anyone is interested.

I think I recall your previous post--the blue cabs with glass inserts look familiar. The kitchen plan looks good, but if you could add a narrow base cabinet (9-12") between the dairy sink DW and the corner susan, you would have a more comfortable space to stand to unload dishes to the upper cabinets. Seating would also benefit from wider elbow space for each seat.

- Can you lengthen the peninsula 24" for the 6th seat and give what mama is saying too?

- Can the wing wall next to Living room match the base cabinet depth?

- I suspect the route to BBQ will be through Living Room. Is the BBQ in front of window best location, and the route from Outdoor dining to Outdoor living past it a good circulation route?

- Can the Pantry layout be simplified and door made larger to get the ref in?

- Can you rearrange the Laundry to remove circulation conflicts and provide a door larger than 24"? Either eliminating the Family room exterior door to slide down the Living wall, relocate the door, or some other scheme.

- Can you eliminate the wall hiding the stair, slide the front door right, maybe remove the tub to make a Powder Room, all so you can enlarge the Master bath to include a toilet and maybe an Entry closet?

- The lighting design needs some work.

Don’t think we can add to the length of the peninsula as the skin is 132” as is.

Good point on the dishwasher. Only thing we can do is shift over the trash compactor but then it wouldn’t be next to the sink.

BBQ layout - thought about this. I agree but haven’t figured out a better solution. Middle area seemed like wasted space. The tree in the pic is actually there and presents a design dilemma.

Lighting - yup just threw them in there. Any thoughts on best layout?

Good point on the bathroom. Have thought about extending the master. Didn’t think about pushing door over and adding a coat closet. That was a good one. Not the focus now though! But yes plan is to remove wall in front of stairs. May convert laundry room to hallway with coat closets next to fireplace bump out.

Pantry - yes door will be 30” which should allow fridge in after taking down doors I think. I will double check. Maybe needs to be 32”. Otherwise how would you suggest simplifying?

As for the wing wall - yes but there is an issue and I will follow up with another pic on that.

These are just spitballing ideas:

- I like the Kitchen opening to the Living, but does formality warrant closing off?

- Can the peninsula be an island? I like the clean break for kosher, but also allows better circulation to outdoor dining and a better BBQ location, and eliminates a lot of the open space by Pantry.

- Pantry, maybe a more hidden door here or facing the stair. I've dollied a lot of fridges and 30" doors still have doorstops making clear width like 28"-29". The Master closet needs no less than 24" clear inside, so that may affect Pantry size.

- Is the Dining table shown with extensions, or fixed that long? Looking at moving Laundry door.

If you have, from left-to-right, warming drawer, dairy sink, DW, then compactor, that should be close enough, and it will also put the compactor between the two sinks.

You need at least 24" for each seat--I'd omit one seat, unless you have small children using them. Or, since you have plenty of space between the end of the island and the pantry, put an overhang on the end, for the 6th seat.

Hmm that’s interesting. Also did think about overhang on the left but thought 6 seats was enough. But I didn’t do the math to realize I’m a bit short for that. It’s just what this kitchen previously had.

Always thought garbage should be right next to sink? But I hear you on being between the sinks. Good point.

Dining table is not yet purchased. But we have 12 chairs.

Peninsula as island creates some difficulties with the existing cabinetry. We have a lazy Susan without anything to really replace that with on both walls.

Living room - not sure. But switching the lazy Susan to that end also creates complications. Since these are secondhand and we are trying limit additional purchases it does create a puzzle and some challenges. However because it’s a small living room off the dining room in one space it’s almost like a big dining room with seating in the back. Sort of like the open space and symmetry of the doorways on each side of range.

Pantry door - i suppose can be in hallway but seems to waste space where we were thinking about keeping our old fridge. Also it’s a bearing wall so more complex there as well. Ideally we’d get a pantry door to match other cabinets next to it that opens to the pantry but likely out of reach budget wise.

I've rearranged existing cabinets for a new layout, counted pavers to see if the pattern works in a new configuration, etc so I get it and it's a challenging puzzle. But even saving on new cabinets, you are spending a lot of money and human capital. Do not let the existing cabinets dictate the layout on essentially the most important room in the house, e.g. just because you have 2 angled end bases doesn't mean you have to reuse them. You might need to alter some or buy a couple new ones to realize the layout you really want.

That 6th seat now is under an upper cabinet, so the assumption was you needed 6 seats (confirmed by 12 dining chairs!) that have to shift down. The peninsula is a long 9' as it is, so extending it even further lead to a thought to just make it an island so you don't have to walk around it. Don't know if it's the best solution.

The base angles I'm not a fan, they essentially eliminate the counter space and remind me of a certain era of kitchen design. That's just a personal opinion and opinions are like arses . . .

OK took some advice and planned an alternative layout. Would love to hear thoughts between the two!

I like the circulation pattern the island provides, and the angled base cabinets look more planned. The aisle between the two islands seems too narrow, and my 'barrier island' warning beep is going off, but in a kosher kitchen some guidelines need to be worked around. If you feel certain you can comfortably access the appliances on each side, I like the layout.

Thanks! We’ve got 39 inches between the two islands (including countertop overhangs) and 46” from the range wall to the other island (-2 inches for range handles). We can add another couple of inches by pushing the dairy island toward the eating area but one of my concerns has been the size of the banquette space. Unsure if it’s too small or closed in? We have 60” between the table and the island.

So after much consideration we went back to the peninsula concept. Posting most updated layout here. We created a breakfast nook by the bench with the small fridge that had been in the island. Added a desk next to the bench which we received with the cabinets and had been attached to the bench. Added a few cabinets into the island for storage and flipped the island around so the microwave is closer to the eating area. We also lined up one pantry sideways next to another to make room for the blue breakfast bar on the back wall. We took some room from the walk in pantry and made it more rectangular with shelves on each side.
