Advice on Silestone’s Calacatta Gold countertops

Hi. I am trying to figure out whether or not I can install the Silestone Calacatta Gold countertops against this backsplash. Sometimes the backsplash looks creamy, but sometimes it’s more taupe. It depends on the lighting. You’ll see how it changes in the pics. I took both of the back splash pictures, just now. It looks different in different parts of the kitchen, based on the light that is hitting it. I can’t tell if the Calacatta Gold has enough brown/gold to make a good match up. The first picture is the Calacatta Gold, the second two are the backsplash and my cherry cabinets, and the third is the stone installed under the kitchen bar (I’m sure the countertops will go with the stone, though).

Hi! Being totally honest, I don’t love them together. The mix of warm and cool doesn’t quite jive. The patterns on all of the different stones compete and would be too busy for my taste. Are you planning to remove the 4” granite backsplash? If so, you may need to replace the tile backsplash anyways. If you are set on the calacatta gold, I’d pair with a simpler backsplash. If you are keeping the current backsplash, I would do a solid colour countertop. Let us know what you decide!

Hi Theresse, so glad to hear your kitchen is coming along. (Did I miss it, what color combo did you end up choosing for your cabinets/wall?) RE: grout color, I think you need to wait until you see your actual marble. We're also doing marble and there is so. much. variation. and all that matters is the actual lot you end up with. (As a major control freak, this is freaking me out!) I have to make these exact same decisions, but it's easy to look at someone else's choices and tell THEM what to do ;) Personally, I'd either choose a white/off white that coordinated best with the overall background color of your lot of tile so that the pretty veins of the natural material can shine and the shape would recede a bit. Or, I'd try to pull a tone from the veins in your lot of marble (a very very light shade of that basic tone, if that makes sense) if you want to also emphasize the shape of the subway tile. I really think any way you choose, you honestly can't go wrong because you have beautifully simple counters so to me there's less of a worry that you'd choose something that didn't "go" as well. Anything you choose, your beautiful marble subways (and your awesome faucet!) are going to pop and be your stars. Can't wait to see. :)

How did you find an actual fireback to insert? I did a image search for firebacks and picked one that was shot straight on and square (easier to copy and paste squares or rectangles than ovals and other shapes). I played with the image in Paint to get it to the right size for your image. I learned this all by trial and error when I worked on my kitchen design. ...that's more gray, so I guess if I chose a gray one, then Carrara marble would probably look better that calacutta? I personally prefer the marble tile over the white subways and prefer calacatta over carrara for your kitchen. You've got a lot of white and black going on already; the gold veins bring in the warmth from your lovely wood floors (and possibly your walls, can't quite tell what color they are). I don't think you have to have everything match exactly. As long as the tones compliment each other - no cool grays with warm grays - I think you can blend a grayish fireback with near black counters and calacatta marble tile. Personally, I think that also makes for a more interesting mix.

Leena braich 3:31 PM Update- Bedrosians will let me exchange my polished wall tiles for the honed ones that were more earth tones. At least my floors and walls will be cohesive. There are a lot of plain tiles in that batch so I can use the plain ones on the wainscoting wall. The shower is in a separate room so the room won’t look as busy. I will have mushroom color cabinets to ground the space as well. Once the cabinets and tiles are in place I can decide on the counter top.

Does anyone have photos of MSI Calacatta Arno counters?

I just went to the MSI showroom to view slabs. The slabs of Arno I saw had dark gold veining only with a bright white background. No other colors or variation. It was pretty. I'm on the fence. Our contractor said to look for jumbo sizes only. I wasn't expecting that and now feel somewhat limited. Arno is pretty and comes in prefab and jumbo size. Check out Vadara Quartz. I prefer their quartz colors. I also went to their showroom and I think their quartz is gorgeous.

Thank you! Yes, I will be removing that 4 inch rise. That 4 inch rise will be replaced with the countertop material, too. So there would be the two materials; countertop and subway tile. I hope they don’t ruin the subway tile. I didn’t put a new backsplash into the budget! :D

I have always loved warm and cools balanced in the right way. Here are some images with a similar look. However, I would do a different BS something like one of the many options below.

I am planning to use the Calcutta gold by Silestone and saw the slab today. I'm sorry, but it doesn't go with the browns in your kitchen no matter how much you want it to.

Try Cambria Brittanicca Gold instead. It has a creamy background and pronounced gold veins.
