Wow guys... Thanks for all of the great suggestions and fun links! In our last home, the walls were sage green. It looked beautiful with our things. I was leaning toward more of a goldy tan here just for a change and for more versatility. My fear is that if I keep my current color theme that it will be out of style soon. I am seeing so many people painting over their golds and moving toward the greys and blue/greens. I love this look and see it in many of my inspiration pics. If I totally changed gears, I would likely need to get a new rug. So many decisions! I do love the look/ feel of soofrivers home. I love the wainscoting and her light walls, which is odd considering I am a color person. I had a blast going through the cottage of the month site- those are some amazing places! I was considering adding some wainscoting, but wasn't sure where. I am going to need major help with window treatments, as I really struggle with them. I do know that DH will not want any of the window covered. As for things I like...I love anything out of the Pottery Barn catalog and also like a mix with some antiques. Thank you!!!

Pal-- timeframe is sooner is better than later, but we don't have anything other than a Halloween party coming up, so a folding table with a fun tablecloth will have to do! I don't really like the table anyway, but that definitely makes me say no to that style. We are pretty short here, but why take a chance? New Bee, I like a round one, but DH thinks they look messy. I think square will seem too big. The dining room is in the center of the house-- you have to walk through it to get just about everywhere, so it's really tricky. We need a table small enough to get by easily but large enough to seat our family of 7 at least every night. (Figure the kitchen will work in the day.) Hilltop-- good to know! I love those chairs too. kswl, good point about covering the table. Will need to do something like that, I think, in the meantime. My husband just sent me a link to Amish Direct. Does anyone have experience with them? I like this table: We can get whatever finish and also leaves, choose diameter, etc. My "dream" table would be one that I don't have to babysit. I would LOVE to have a table that the kids can play games on, we could hang out there together, etc. without having to always have a pad and tablecloth on. I want to eat and drink there! My bedroom is a hodge podge of furniture unfortunately. We bought a new king bed that has a natural poplar wood color, and don’t have much left over to replace other furniture as of now. We have a white dresser, a black TV stand/console table, and a light wood colored smaller dresser. We need nightstands but I’m having a hard time deciding what color to get since it’s all over the place. I wouldn’t want them to look too matchy matchy with the bed (don’t want it to look like “a set”). Should I go with ehite? Black? Other? Help! (Side note: we are in the process of changing the wallpaper from the wooden wallpaper to a patterned white wallpaper).

Hi Kim! I commented quite a while ago and see that you are still in a quandary. I am dating myself but found Christopher Lowell’s” Seven RULES for Design” very helpful. Steps 2-4 are your stumbling blocks. Keeping your main pieces of furniture, then work on your flooring, treat your ottoman as an accent piece(5) #4 is window treatment,which I believe you are moving to the bedroom.Don’t get new curtains until you decide if you will be using a throw rug. Your artwork is part of step 5. plants I think is next then lighting is last. Hope this helps, he did amazing transformations, check out his book. Good luck.
