This rose was ok in its first year, it has became one of my favorite this year. It has amazing fragrance and a long vase life to boot.
Okay, I bought Francis Meilland today (along with Le Petit Prince) at a local greenhouse. Both have lots of black cane which I have to cut off...but hopefully they'll be okay. :) :)
Francis Meilland is amazing! i dare say the most beautiful bloom in my garden. I love the fragrance too! How does he blooms for you? I think I had a total of four blooms last year (1st year) and I’ve only now seen a single bud. If he is profuse for you, what’s the trick?
Sunny, he blooms steadily for me. I do nothing but give it full sun and Rose Tone as fertilizer.
Still shopping.... any of you tried Francis Meilland?
Best hybrid tea roses
Maybe more blooms on Francis Meilland
Gorgeous !! I like your pics. better than what I had: Frederic Mistral (scent is too overpowering).
Very beautiful, Hoang Ton! FM is one of my favorite Hybrid Teas.
Love the blooms and the fragrance, but mine is very stingy
I would love to get FM. I passed on it last year...and now wish I hadn't.
Hoang - your FM pictures are stunning!!!
Straw - a fragrance that is too strong? Do you hate the fragrance?
Here in Michigan, FM is disease free and hardy -- makes a classic upright hybrid tea plant. Slow to bloom, slow to rebloom. No fragrance to my nose. Long lasting when cut.
@Hoang Ton thanks for the tips! I dug mine up this spring and am babying him in a pot. He is in a full day of sun now and I plan to feed him regularly. Hopefully this will help me attain steady blooming like yours😄.
rosesmi5a - no fragrance for you. Darn. Yours doesn't scream "buy me." LOL
Gorgeous! It may be my favorite,! definitely in top 5 of all my roses! Love it’s BIG SUPER SIZED BLOOMS & FRAGRANCE! I just planted it on sunny south facing side of home! Hope it grows like yours.... @Hoang Ton! Your blooms are simply the BEST! Can’t wait! Mine came from Heirloom Roses this spring-it’s a real winner!
Very beautiful 😍
My favourite shade of pink. As Diane would say, I'd love to face-plant in it!
This rose is all over the place in regards to do I love it or hate it. Maybe I just have to try it next year!!!
Hoang - definitely your FM is unbearably gorgeous!!!
rosecanadian, in the first year, there are many many times i thought about replacing it with something else, i'm glad i didn't because this year it impressed me so much with the 1st flush, and at the moment it's already prepping with the 2nd flush, buds are already formed, so this rose is not stingy at all
:) :) Such good news that you hung on to yours...I've certainly been guilty of getting rid of a rose without giving it a good enough chance.
Hoang: Thank you for sharing. I’m not typically into Hybrid Teas... but the beautiful fragrance and long vase life of this rose earned it a spot in my garden.🌸Is that bouquet from one plant? Or do you have multiple plants? I’m trying to figure out how many blooms I can’t expect from a mature plant... and if I need to grow more plants if I want to be able to have enough to cut and enjoy inside.
Ann-SoCalZ10b SunStZ22, it's from 3 plants, those blooms were ready to cut, but there were plenty more almost cut ready buds left on the plants
Hoang Ton: How did you prep the soil for so many blooms? I'm debating if I should mix Espoma tone (Plant tone, rose tone, etc) into the potting soil? Thanks for any info. on fertilizer in the planting soil as well as topdressing later.
Hoang, your FM is beautiful. How tall does she get for you? I have this as an own root rose. So far it has not fallen pray to the nematodes. It has problems last year with my flooding, but made it through it. Now it is aprx 8 foot tall. I have only gotten a few blooms, but I noticed this morning that the long octopus arms looks like it is going to give me some laterals. I hope this is the case.
Thanks for posting. I love your videos.
What part of Florida are you in
strawchicago z5, i dug a pretty bit hole, mixed black kow compost with the native soil, about 1:1 ratio when i planted it. This 2nd year I'm using 13 13 13 balance fertilizer and it seems to make the plant blooms nicely
sharon2079, my FM is at 6 ft, it's on it's 2nd year, not sure if it will get taller, hope not, i'm in Tallahassee FL
Rosecanadian -- please give us a fragrance report when your new plant blooms. This plant has so much going for it already!
rosesmi5a - I sure will!! :) :)
