Rose Ready For The Garden Tour
Comments (22)Quelle surprise: to see this old post back up on page one! It is also a bit serendipitous to see it on this particular day. My DW and I are putting the old house up for sale, sign goes up today. She is 112 years old and we have spent the past 13 years renovating and loving her. But when we moved to the East all those years ago, the plan was always to move back west to our home Province of British Columbia. That is where all of both are families are, so the time has come to go home. It is a bitter sweat time in our lives. Leaving our grand old home, my zone pushing garden and dear friends we have made here in Ontario. I am also very maudlin about all the roses I grow which will most likely perish without my fanatic care and winter protection. But that is life. I will not miss having to go to all the work of winter protection and spring cleanup growing tender roses here requires. I look forward to growing roses in a warmer climate again, but his well be the third garden I will have to build from scratch. Thanks for bringing the post up again jjpeace. Paula, I expect we will soon share more similar gardening climates. We will likely end up in the South Okanagan of British Columbia, an arid zone 7. Cheers, Rick...See MoreMini Garden tour stop ll
Comments (11)gardengirl nancy, I think they sell masking tape in all colors now (for painting). Maybe you can get some in green! Or better yet, get some in white & get some acrylic paint so that you can make the filler look realistic! I'm kidding, of course. SO glad I don't have slugs to leave holes. I just have deer... they take the whole damn plant!...See MoreRose Society Garden Tour Today
Comments (16)Thanks everyone! I don't know that we'll be bringing back the show. We've lost a lot of the older members and it seems that young people aren't very interested in joining these types of groups. We have had several membership drives with no success. The Grosse Pointe Society had only 11 paid members this year and I fear this may be its last year. Metro only has a few more so there is no telling what will happen to that. The third group, Detroit Rose Society, is also losing members and we've tried and tried to convince all 3 groups to join forces but no one wants to give up their own group. In the end they may all disappear....See MoreRose Garden Tour with each rose labelled
Comments (12)Thank you, Darren. I really enjoyed the tour, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate the labels. A visual experience uninterrupted by guessing games. Just pure enjoyment. Your garden is stunning! Absolutely every rose (and every other plant) was a delight, but like Ingrid, I was especially and repeatedly bewitched by Emily Bronte. What lovely rose! I hope it stays I commerce for awhile. Carol...See MoreHoang Ton
