Help! Resolving different ceiling heights
Comments (18)I would think that using strapping or furring strips on the joists and putting the finish drywall on those would be the Least expensive solution since it's just a bit more framing and the other options will involve some picky finish work to make it look decent. I think anything other than a perfectly flat ceiling here and you wasted all the money you've put into it so far. There was no point in removing the header and putting in a structural beam that was flush just to end up leaving it with another header or not flush in the finished product. Comments (6)The color palette is still TBD. The overall house style is taking a variety of modern/contemporary cues, with an occasional splash of colors. I did like the notion of darker bottom cabs, lighter color upper cabs. DW wanted orange so this is the current style. In this case, yeah the soffit unfortunately is a structural element to the house (there are clerestory windows above) and to change now is not something I want to go down the path of. Disregarding all the other details, just wanting to know peoples thoughts on aesthetics. Some other notes- the asymmetrical cabinet height would really only be visible from the direction of facing the sink. From the living room (which is adjacent to the kitchen, past the peninsula) the soffit would block the view of the cabinetry above the peninsula. Just the soffit is heighted at 8'. The other side has an even higher vault....See MoreWindows are different heights from ceiling.
Comments (6)Camouflage with a valance from the ceiling to the top of the shorter window, and from the ceiling to the same point on the taller window. Someone must have made good use of some group of windows at a Building Warehouse, or the like? Easy enough to solve, if you don't mind giving up the view atop the window. The other idea, I have always wanted to use, is to install a mirror atop the shorter window from the ceiling up. It might give you the option of enjoying the taller view of the window that way. Not knowing what the cost is, mirror tiles might even work above the shorter window. Think about other ways, go to a pawn shop or 2nd hand furniture store and see if you can purchase some former wall mirrors or dresser mirrors and get a glass cutter and make your own tiles. If you are not concerned about the mirror being a shiney new finish one, this might work nicely for you? Likely a glass company could cut and install one mirror to fit in that space however in a quicker time span.....See MoreDo I need a different wall color-not painting ceiling
Comments (3)The white up there looks very pink on my monitor, and no, I dont like it with your ceiling. Do you know what the color white is thats on your ceiling? I assume that is flat, I would try to match that, and then use matte, or eggshell sheen on the walls....See MoreCDR Design, LLC
