Need Color Suggestions for Coastal Cottage

White house with a dark charcoal roof - very traditional. Having some hurricane repairs made so it’s a good time to choose another color for hurricane shutters and handrail. Very dark green now, which I like, but want to explore options

I’m not a crazy vibrant color person. I tend to prefer serene colors over fun colors, but I would love all of your suggestions! The front door is also on my list of potential changes. I think I would prefer to do away with side lights and transom in favor of larger door/doors That were not full glass. Thanks in advance!

I should say that these shutters are not an option. We need them for hurricane protection. They do cover the windows. A few inches on each shutter folds behind the shutter. When we need to close them for storms we easily open them out the full width of the windows, close them over the windows, and add braces across them for support. Almost 20 years, multiple hurricanes and tropical storms - have never had any broken windows. Thank you!

Please do not paint the brick white! That would be a crime. I think you’re already going the right direction. Is the dark blue line painters tape or is it paint? Unfortunately I can’t tell from the picture but if the latter please paint it all the same color. I’d go with a color that’s slightly more blue and less green, then go with brighter address numbers and flower pots that complement the colors.

I would probably pick the color of lilac for the shutters but I’d study the brick first at all times of day and maybe end up choosing a different pastel. Would paint the door last, not sure what.

the very dark shutters seem to make your porch look dark. Are the porch floor and ceiling painted?

Painting the body of the house a yellow-y cream butter might be nice, while leaving the columns and dormers white. Would want to see what I could get away with for the shutters and oOr.

I think Farrow and Ball Hague Blue would be gorgeous. Here it is on a front door:

It’s such a lovely, classic, saturated blue and would pair well with your brick color.

What about a lighter sage or mint green (like my favorite Southern Living coastal house feature - https://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/nautical-coastal-home-decor?slide=c6e22de4-69d5-4ea4-86b4-78c696428d18#c6e22de4-69d5-4ea4-86b4-78c696428d18)? I think it could work with your roof and house color.

First off, I LOVE your house!!! It is a classic style and you are so lucky to own it!

Second, I would NOT replace your front door with double doors, nor would I remove the side lights. We had double doors once, and invariably only one gets used, so the other is kind of superfluous. We replaced them with a single door and side lights.

As for colors, I love the suggestions of a blue/gray/green--Ben Moore's Stratton Blue is very pretty.

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt is a nice soft color. Paint the handrail to match the roof or a few shades lighter.

Everyone - thank you so much for your suggestions. I especially love the calm light blue grey colors. I was concerned that the lighter colors might not look good with the dark roof. Do you all think that is not an issue?

ital mover - Yes. The white picket fence is required of all homes in the neighborhood.

The house has to stay white. No color change allowed on the house, just the shutters, top of handrail that currently matches shutters, and front door area. I may try painting the door, sidelights and transom instead of replacing it for now.
