Need help with an area rug
Comments (3)I would add a large textured natural rug. Or a very subtle pattern that reads solid. Your room already has good color. You just need to define the living room space and add some warmth. I would probably go darker but this a good example of what I had in mind....See Moreneed help with dirt area selling house
Comments (4)Where do you live? It will affect your landscaping choices if you go that route. You can do either landscaping or hardscaping. But I think you do need some plants to add color and character since the yard looks a bit bare when its just open grass. Hardscaping ideas: - fill with rocks or mulch and make a large patio area for entertaining - create an inground fire pit with a nice stone ring around it along with pavers for a small patio area Landscaping: If it were me I would actually do a few things. This is if it were my yard: 1) plant a few dwarf evergreen shrubs spread out there for winter interest. 2) and then depending how much space is left I would add perennial flowering plants with beautiful flowers that die to the ground in fall and come up in spring which make clean up simpler with less pruning, so for example things like peonies (which flower late spring) and hardy hibiscus (which flower mid-late summer) 3) And additionally this is kind of optional but along the edge line (and in any bare areas if there are any left) I would plant some low growing annuals like french marigolds or petunias so they don't cover up or hide the other stuff but add plenty of color. You would be using less annuals each year as the other ''permanent'' plants will be filling in over the next few years. 4) After all the planting is done, mulch everything with wood, it will add organic material to the soil as it decomposes, conserve moisture in the summer, and help control weeds...See MoreHelp! Comments (18)Right off the kitchen like that - its original purpose is probably as a dining room. Looks like the family room is at the end of the hallway. So, ask yourself if you want a separate seating area and if you'd use it as such. If that's your plan, the 4 seats as @ptreckel suggested would be how I would decorate as well....See MoreThe front of my house needs help in all areas
Comments (7)Two things to keep in mind when collecting inspiration pictures: Since you are south of me, you will have a mere 5 months of empty, dead winter landscaping. The last two pictures are almost entirely composed of disappearing plants. The evergreens next to the house in the 3rd picture will remain, and the grass in the last picture will have some presence, but everything else will be gone. Nature abhors a vacuum. In an area that averages about 1" of precipitation a week, 52 weeks a year, empty, mulched space is simply a place that will have to be kept weeded. While plants need space in which to grow when young, there should be relatively little space between them in a few years. Otherwise, the annual mulching and continual weeding can get tiresome. So I'd start by planning a winter landscape. If you have deer (and you probably do) junipers and boxwood are reasonable choices. Once you have that set, you can add in flowering deciduous shrubs and perennials. The zone information only shows up in replies in GardenWeb, not Houzz. When it shows up in Houzz, people have added it onto their screen name. What I see for you is paintedpeggies(6a)....See MoreSigrid
